Why did you care about their look? You just mind your own business and move on.

Maybe he was trying to be considerate of others letting them enjoy a quiet moment in the natural world.

Hi all,

Here I am trying to take pictures of a family of 5 moose (Grand Tetons), big male included at about 1/4 mile away with my Sigma 100-400 and around me, there were at least 6 or 7 people watching those animals as well.

As I started shooting (burst mode of course), many heads turned toward me with a "look", you know that look!. This is where I do not like my new D750 too much.

Is there a way to turn the shutter sound down as it it quite an obnoxious sound if you are not alone.

Thanks

As you note the Burst mode is obnoxious; I would expect anyone close to cringe.
While the sound may not have any effect on animals at 1/4 mile, courtesy would suggest that you carefully compose and shoot single frames when you are part of a group not accustomed to the nose, AND attempting to enjoy a natural setting.
or buy a mirrorless camera.

For my D750 I find the best mode for reducing shutter noise is turning off the hearing aids. Ah, quiet shutter now!
