Got my first camera for Christmas when I was about 12, in the late 1950s.

Bought my first 35mm (a Petri 35) when I was in the Air Force. And my first SLR (Yashica TL-Electro-X) soon after.

Then I moved to a Yashicamat 124G twin-lens reflex and went into the wedding business. I shot a few dozen weddings in the 1970s, also did some newspaper photography and some passport photos. Later wrote a lot of magazine articles and shot my own photos to go with them.

I now do most of my shooting with the pocket camera I always carry; currently a Canon pc1589 (16 megapixels). My focus is more on humorous or interesting shots rather than on technically perfect photographs.

Here's a sample: a squirrel trying to keep cool on the hottest day of the year.

Welcome to UHH, I’m aged also, but love photography.

Mike, when I was doing basic training at San Antonio, I learned three things about Texas:

1. The Alamo is about the size of a 7-11 store.
2. Old men play dominoes all over the place.
3. The jackrabbits really ARE as big as horses.

You forgot in Texas free refills on Ice Tea. Was just on Lackland today. Don't no when you did basic but would not believe how the base as changed.

Mike, I was there in November 1969; our dorm was brand new and they hadn't yet solved the problem where whenever a toilet was flushed, the shower water went to red hot instantaneously. I still remember the screams.

And I hate tea.

It also free refills on Coke! I was already at Korat in 1969. Been in SATX since 1986 when I discovered there was no snow shovels in people garages. Thats when I said I'm not going back to IL. Grew up about 35 miles from Scott AFB on Route 4.
