Got my first camera for Christmas when I was about 12, in the late 1950s.
Bought my first 35mm (a Petri 35) when I was in the Air Force. And my first SLR (Yashica TL-Electro-X) soon after.
Then I moved to a Yashicamat 124G twin-lens reflex and went into the wedding business. I shot a few dozen weddings in the 1970s, also did some newspaper photography and some passport photos. Later wrote a lot of magazine articles and shot my own photos to go with them.
I now do most of my shooting with the pocket camera I always carry; currently a Canon pc1589 (16 megapixels). My focus is more on humorous or interesting shots rather than on technically perfect photographs.
Here's a sample: a squirrel trying to keep cool on the hottest day of the year.

Great first post! I expect you'll find many folks here with similar backgrounds. I hope you still have some of your old film gear - shooting film with digital post processing seems to have led many of us to a new appreciation of our old film rigs.
