A boy and his toys. Looks like great fun combined with a diving trip. Looking forward to photos.

But you are suggesting, I think, that the tables aren't safe. I'm just curious.
The original USN dive tables have about a 5% probability of a DCS hit - which also goes for the 60 feet for 60 minutes no-deco limit. Safety stops are always a good idea, but I prefer to be a bit more scientific about that. For dry diving (inside tenders on a multiplace chamber) as well as for my own thoughts on wet diving, my recommendation was for a 'safety enhancement' factor of 20 {just my opinion - dial in whatever SE factor you become comfortable with. An SE = 0 will give you the USN dive table recommendations - or pretty dang close to that}. Nobendem SE-20 on Air predicts, using 1 minute for both descent and ascent time, 44 minutes of bottom time at 60 FSW as a No-Deco limit; while SE=0 comes up with 65 minutes at 60 FSW.
Although (previously) board certified in undersea and hyperbaric medicine - I never took up SCUBA as a hobby. Just as I am also a chief flight surgeon, I never became a Pilot. BOTH of these hobbies although relatively safe, require constant practice to remain so. Failure to pay attention to the smallest detail can result in your ending the day in a most unpleasant way.
And yes - all of my practical experience was in and with multiplace as well as monoplace chambers.

I have more than 3000 dives logged. I've always used the USN tables and never been bent. But I'm a conservative diver and take deco seriously. I always make at least one safety stop on any dive below 60 feet whatever the tables say. I've never depended on dive computers, always carry the basic table with me, plan the dive and dive the plan.

What do you think of today's dive computers? All my dive buddies use them, I've never been much of a joiner, but I realize that technology marches on. Just wondering if they are good enough to trust as a backup emergency system if the plan turns to sh1t!

Interesting about the 60 at 60 figures. The diver charts used to give a no deco dive as 60 at 60. The new ones give 55 minutes at 60 ft.

Hi - - CPO:
If you're comfortable with a particular set of dive tables - - DANG - use what works for you.
But if you're going where you've never gone before - like diving a lake in the Colorado High Plains on Nitrox
I recommend Nobendem with SE 20 - and tweak it down from there until you get the niggles. Then increase the SE factor by 3 - 5.
I have no clue which algorithms the current set of Dive Computers (DC) use {and you can just BET they are ALL proprietary} - - but I doubt they are interested in anyone claiming they got bent while following the DC recommendations - - so likely they are on the conservative side. And again - - I don't know if they'll give you a recommendation for anything but Air at Sea Level.

Yep. At 65, I don't see myself going too far out on the edge. Unlike some of the diving I did when I was an experienced youngster.

Is Nobendem available somewhere?
