I still love my D500 and my D7200, but I’ve found that my Panasonic G9 is the camera I grab first. Not only is there a nice savings in kens weight, but it is ergonomically the best camera I’ve used. Just a joy to shoot with.

Consider a Fuji XT-3 with the new 16-80 mm lens which is considered lightweight. You can use your Nikon lenses via adapter on Fuji or you could pick up a couple of excellent Fuji primes which are very lightweight and weather resistant and sell the Nikon ones.

I didn’t know the new Fuji lens was out.

I also am attempting to choose between the Nikon Z6 and a Sony a6000. I have both now, clearly admit to GAS.
I got the Sony because of the size and light weight. Great for a travel camera. The Z6 with the Nikon lenses I have is still almost as heavy as my old D800. The Sony 18-135 lens works great, can't see much difference from the Nikon with a 24-85 af-g. Looking at the raw files in LR.
I'm considering returning the Z6, and upgrading the Sony to an a6500.

I ordered that lens the night before Fuji announced it.

Considering changing brands from Nikon as Im upgrading to a new camera. I have only 2 lenses so im not tied to Nikon. D7500 is a heavy brick. Considering lighter and smaller mirrorless. Maybe Sony or Olympus? Any suggestions?

Made the same transition a couple years ago, after earlier deciding to try to improve my photography by limiting myself to a prime low light 50mm on my aging but wonderful Nikon D90. Easy transition for me was to then move to Fuji X100F Mirrorless 24MP. Have loved the quality, lightweight/size, flexibility, and overall fun of this fantastic little camera. If you do not need or often use the long lenses of your DSLR, you might feel the same about a much smaller option.

If you invested in Nikon lenses, why change logos? Go try a lighter Nikon, I love my D3400. It does just about everything I need and is 450 grams versus 700 of the d7500. The body sells for under $400 brand new. The rumor is that Nikon is about to discontinue the 3xxx line entirely, so you might just be able to pick one up dirt cheap in a few months.

I second the Fuji X-T3. It’s an APS-C sensor at 26mp. Fuji’s newest technology. My best friend swears by the Panasonic/Olympus cameras. He likes how small and compact they are. But, they are micro 4/3’s sensor. Being smaller than APS-C, they have less dynamic range.

I’m impressed with the Fuji lenses.

From my past, I know Fuji lenses are great. The M43 DR is about one stop less, more than made up for in so many different ways.
Used to have a Basset Hound called Butch.

I have read all the advice until I couldn't read any more of it. I think the best advice was to keep your powder dry until Sony finishes introducing the new cameras - 2 to go. At the very least, new Sony cameras will depress prices of existing offerings. At best, they may offer improved features (if not prices) that fit your demands.
Stand by.

I would simply keep the D7500 and get a 35mm f1.8 lens for it. This is equal to a 50mm film lens and is light as a feather. Remember the nifty fifty? I think this would lighten your camera substantially. I like this lens and it remains on my D7500 at all times as my grab and go camera. Also this is a very affordable lens.

Another light lens for your D7500 is the 40mm Macro which can be used as a normal lens as well. It's equal to a 60mm film lens. This way you have both a regular lens and a Macro for close-ups. I have both but use the Macro only on my D5200 but works on any DX Nikon camera.

Glad I read this. Purchased a FujiFilm X-T3 some months back and am considering buying other Fuji lenses. I have several Nikon lenses and hadn't thought about a Nikon to Fuji adapter. Any recommendations on an adapter make and model? Thanks.

Dump the bricks and grab a Fuji XT3 and maybe a X100 F for fun and everyday use. Sure, you can use an adaptor for the Nikon lenses, but why? The Fuji glass enjoys a world-wide reputation as being as good as it gets and you have all the auto and focussing functioning built-in. If you are like me, you will never look back. My Nikon FF, DX, Trinity lenses as well as a boatload of primes have become doorstops since I tried Fuji. Be careful, the light weight comfortable form-factor, no wannabe parapazzi thing working against you when shooting, fabulous straight-out-of-camera results that require little time if any with post software, price, silent operation, and the speed and functionality of EV viewfinder providing an exact preview of what the finished photo will look like, you may become addicted.

Cheers!

Switching to Sony, Fuji, or Olympus/Panasonic will reduce camera weight. But lenses of the same quality won't weigh much less. If you don't print, there is no penalty to going to the smallest cameras. If you get f/4 lenses instead of f/2.8 or f/1.4, you can reduce weight significantly.

My experience with printing any good camera with 24 megapixel sensor is no worse than FF. I guess billboard size may be different, however, I have no need for a billboard sized print.

Cheers!
