I usually have the OS on. Either it or the internal in the camera seems to be working for me. I mostly hand-hold while shooting and I get some pretty sharp pictures. If the picture looks shaky, it's operator error, not camera error.

So you use BOTH the OS on the Sigma and the IBIS at the same time in the Pentax body. Interesting. Of course - you have no option to turn off the IBIS, but you DO have the option on the lens. I also have a Sigma EX 105 f2.8 OS HSM Macro for my Sony SLTs - and the recommendation on the leaflet is to turn OFF the OS - to avoid conflict with the IBIS in the SLTs … so, that's what I've been doing … I wonder ….

Incidentally, Ricoh is preparing to celebrate in November the 100th anniversary of Asahi Optical Company, the company which eventually became Pentax.

Here's my two Pentax Bodies, RE - 6x7 on left (Asahi Optical Co.) and K-50 on the right …

Pentax 6x7 (Asahi) Pentax K-50
Pentax 6x7 (Asahi) Pentax K-50...

The photo below is of one menu screen on my K-30. Doesn't your K-50 have a similar screen?
{Shake Reduction = IBIS}

Yes, it does, RE … note: I was referring to the IBIS in my Sony SLTs when I wrote that - of which I have 3. Those, combined with my K-50 make four DSLRs with IBIS, total. The Sigma lens we (Les and I) share - is, in fact - with ME - a Nikon mount. And, the Sigma lens to which I referred here, is a Sony a-mount lens. Don't believe the Sony IBIS can be switched OFF, like it can, in the Pentax bodies. But, anyway - why on EARTH - would you want to? IBIS - is why I switched to Pentax, initially, and then - moved over to Sony!!!

RE - I believe the Pentax K-30 and the Pentax K-50 are - essentially - the same identical camera.

The ONLY real difference is the K-30 tops out at 12,800 ISO and the K-50 is 4x higher, at 51,200 …

Other than that - there's no difference between the two bodies … (apart from slight design differences)

Are the outside ones both KPs, RE - as well as the top one? … If not - which models are they? Do you know?

The photo comes from a Japanese language Twitter page, so I don't know exactly what is going on. The two outside cameras are two KP cameras, modified by adding a custom wooden handgrip, a plastic 'hat' over the OnBoard Flash, and a custom 'paint job'. This started off as an idea from some Japanese company, because apparently some Japanese love to collect "special editions", so Ricoh is going to offer them for sale on their Japanese-language web site. I am guessing this photo was originated by the company that originated the "KP J".

The top one may have started off as a Pentax X-5, a 26X super-zoom camera I hadn't heard of until someone at the Pentax Forum suggested that as the source before the same treatment was somehow applied to it as to the "KP J".

The second camera from the right is a Pentax Q-S1 that has also gained a 'hat'.

So - you're saying the body ON TOP of the KP box - is NOT - actually - a KP, then? … Interesting!!!

So, all that remains is to ID that mysterious chrome-topped model on the left, then … ME, perhaps?

Pentax had one or two Super-Zooms out there - c. 2010-2012 - when they were at the height of the boom - but, the Pentax models had limited controls … so, unfortunately - they both bombed!!!

Depending on what the camera manual says - you may want to turn off the stabilisation when using a tripod.
For my Olympus M4/3 bodies that is the case.

I don't think I've EVER used a tripod, YET - on ANY of my four IBIS bodies … just no need … not with the lenses I have, at the moment, anyway. Both of my Pentax lenses top out at 200mm, and the two Sony lenses I use most often - are 105mm at the top end. I just have no need for anything longer - thus - no need to use a tripod, either. I had an 80-400 Tokina for my Canons, but I sold it - as the only way I could get anything decent with it - was mounted on a tripod - and I didn't wish to feel that limited ….

Not using a tripod, depending on what you are shooting and the light levels, really does restrict your shooting, and creativity, options.

I've only got three, Richard - my trusty Bogen 3050 - which is ALWAYS supporting my 4x5 …

And a French GPD - I keep right here, by my side - for doing macro shots - right here …

The other one's a Velbro … er … Velbron? … I keep near the door, for taking with me, on assignments.

It's a cheapo - from Taiwan - but, pretty sturdy - all metal - with squeeze tabs - you know?

Whenever I think I might need a tripod - it goes out the door, with me. Used to keep it in the car, always.

I think of 300mm as the cut-off. Anything under - is - pretty much - hand-hold-able …

And, anything over - you might want to include extra support (Tamron 18-400 - lone exception!)

But - get up to around 500mm plus - you'd be pretty stupid - NOT - to use a tripod!!!

Most of my lenses' top ends - are around 200-250mm … I can handle that, without support …

My longest EOS is a Tamron 300mm, and I have the Tamron 18-270, too … plus a Sigma 70-300 - which also is duplicated in my Nikon gear. Plus, I have the Sigma 18-250 Macro, and a Sigma 18-200 - which is the same range I have for the Tamron on my Pentax K-50 (plus, I have a Pentax 50-200) and on the SLTs - there's an 18-250, as well … but, mostly - I use the 16-105 on one, and the 105 Macro on the other …

Using a tripod in some locations will get you thrown out.
I haven't used a tripod when using a Sigma 150-500, on a 1.6 crop body at all, in reasonable light levels. Somtimes out to 500mm.
I do use a monopod to help with the weight (and also a small amount of stability).
