Wow, nice but slightly odd collection. I'd find the 100mm Macro, 200mm interesting. Others, I have similar as K-mounts. It would be cool to have one of those old Thorium Radio-active 50mm f/1.4 Takumar lenses (the coating are usually badly yellowed now). What K-mount Lenses do you have? But it does sound like you are not in the market to sell anyway. I think my wife might kill me if I buy anymore glass. I have about 35 lenses, not counting ones for other types and format cameras.

Yeah, I understand...I downsized a lot to KEH but, collected some more in a recent purchase.

I have available to sell in K Mount: DA 16-45; DA 18-250; F 70-210; FA 80-320; D FA 28-105; BG6 (for K1).

I just recently acquired a Pentax. I took it out for a test drive over the weekend. I'll be doing the processing this week sometime. It could be another of my favorites.

Bought my first Pentax SLR (film) in 1984 and years later bought an istDL when I learned that it would accept older Pentax lenses which I had accumulated. At the time, I think it was the only brand that would accept older lenses. I still have and use that camera on occasion and now have a Kx that is my go to. One of the things I like best about Pentax DSLR's is the fact that they have chosen to incorporate shake reduction into the camera bodies rather than the lenses. This allows one to have this feature even when using some vintage glass. The two lenses I use the most are my DA 18-55mm AL and a DA 55-300mm ED. I also use on occasion a Sigma 28-200mm UC telephoto. Nothing really high end, but it has served me well and photography remains a secondary hobby to my collector cars.

An "older" K1 with a bunch of glass as backup to my original K1 upgraded to MKII. All I wanted was the K1 and hence getting rid of the relatively newer BG6 and D FA 28-105.

Their bumbling approach to mirrorless, the dearth of announcements and being buried in the Ricoh hierarchy foreshadows the complete demise of the brand.
Such a sorry end to a grand legacy and contributions to photography

The pentaprism has always been the hallmark of Pentax; choosing to concentrate on what they are good at is not my idea of “bumbling”.

Their current line is K-1, KP, and K-70; within the next year they are expected to announce a replacement for the retired K-3ii which will complete their line. There is no reason to announce new products if the current ones are doing the job.

Keen - think you mean the K-70, don't you?

Ricoh saw fit to discontinue both of the beginner series Pentax DSLRs - the K-S1, and K-S2 .. shame!!!!
The K-70 replaced the K-S2. The K-S1 was an experimental camera which led nowhere.

I wonder how many UHHogs are Pentax enthusiasts. I rarely see any Pentax related discussions. Since the dawn of Digital Photography Canon and Nikon, and recently Sony, have dominated the market.
Back in the film days I used Pentax, Nikon, Minolta and Yashica TLR (Twin Lens Reflex). Switching to Digital, I started out with Pentax K100D, then Nikon D7000 and D750.
I have now gone back to Pentax (KS70). I have only the DA 40mm limited and DA 15 mm lenses.
Looking fwd. to suggestions re: Pentax lenses including vintage lenses and your experience with the same.

To answer your original question, I can highly recommend the DA 18-135mm DC and the DA 55-300mm PLM, which form the heart of my KP kit.

I have a K-50 currently. Had a K-X that died. Use several lenses from my film SLR's, K-1000 and a semi-automatic that I don't remember the model number. lenses: Pentax 50 mm, 28-70 zoom, and a (I think) 60-300 Vivitar long zoom. However, I have been using my Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS60 a lot more lately. Mainly because it is small enough to keep in my backpack/purse.

FWIW, let me add my two cents regarding Pentax products. My experience has been with a pair of Pentex binoculars. They are 8x binoculars with an armored coating. Supposed to be quite rugged. On two occasions, the first time in warranty, I dropped them. Both times the drop was less than 18" onto a carpeted floor. In both cases a plastic cam inside the case broke. In both cases Pentax charged me for repairs. So much for armored cases.
Yes, I dropped the binoculars and it was my fault so I paid for repairs. However, the binoculars should not have broken from an 18" fall. Just plain poor and cheap design. Needless to say I will not be purchasing any more Pentax equipment.

Dropping optics of any kind is not a recipe for success. I dropped my Pentax K20D DSLR and optics from waist height onto the sidewalk. It hit the corner of the body. I caught it on the first bounce and the optics did not take any other hits. After pushing things back in place, everything fired up and worked. I do not recommend doing this at home or on vacation!

If I dropped my Leica binoculars on the ground, I would expect to pay for any repairs. Amour coating is just for a better tactile hand gripping not a harden drop proof classification.

The K-70 replaced the K-50 (mine) and K-30 (yours) … the K-S1 and K-S2 were a new line …

They all sold concurrently, for a short time, RE … one can STILL find the K-S2 in some places …

My K-50 is kept in one of those rounded-cornered Adorama Slinger Bags. I used to keep all of my GO-TO DSLRs on a cart, near the door - so I could grab them quick, on the way out. One day, I heard a thump, shortly after I came in. I took a look over that way, and saw the K-50 had fallen, in the bag, to the floor. The drop is about two feet. Afterwards, I discovered the camera's LCD always blinks on and off - the highlights feature, no longer disengages. I ran it by the Pentax Service Site, and was informed there was a $179 fee for them even looking at it. Since the camera only cost me $199 - I decided to live with it!!!

Everyone else agrees that the K-30 was replaced by the K-50 which was replaced by the K-S2 which was replaced by the K-70. Several were sold concurrently, but you will see that in any line, such as Canon selling T-3i and T-4i, maybe even T-5i, concurrently.

Pentax is too small a company to have two cameras at the same price level. Frankly, inventory control is not one of their areas of strength; at the other extreme, they ran out of K-3ii some time ago and we are still waiting for its replacement.

I don't think the K-70 REPLACED the KS-2, RE … like I said, the KS series was a different line - at a different price point than the K-30/K-50 series. Obviously, the K-70 was the upgrade from the K-50. On the K-3 II - that, was clearly an upgrade from the K3. The KP - you got - like it or not - looks to be the upgrade to the K3 series. I really don't expect Ricoh to introduce another Crop. They're concentrating now on the K1/K1 II!
