It's settings. It's not broken.

And I do not believe he knows how to fix it. And, he said it came back that way, by which he is implying that Nikon did it. If Nikon did it, they should correct it.

Nikon resets the camera to factory default settings. All companies do that to their returns.

Is this a difficult concept for some? The camera comes back just like it came out of the box when new.

So when you get it back you stick in the flash card where you have stored all your custom settings, and you restore them. It takes about 60 seconds.

I don't completely disagree with you. But, using an automotive analogy, if you brought your car in for servicing, and they state in their service description that all fluids are topped off, including engine oil, and the low oil light turns on when you take a hard right turn, are you going to take the car back to the mechanic, or are you first going to check the oil?

I will check the oil and top it off if it is low. Simple solution to a simple problem. Setting up camera settings is a simple solution to a simple problem. Getting on the phone, determining blame, sending the camera back on your nickel and paying for return shipping - sounds like an overly complicated alternative to becoming more familiar with the manual and the camera's menus.

It's not Nikon fault but I am sure if the OP calls Nikon they would walk him thru how to set the camera the way he wants. Nikon is good for that. I know because I called them several times although my camera did have the problems but I could see they are throrough to make sure it's not an operator error.
