If you came to this Thread, expecting ME to delineate it for you - I don't have the answers. I suspect, those who've made the plunge, and still use DSLRs as well, could make the case for you, better than I. With the introduction of Nikon's Z series, just a short while, ago … and, then, the subsequent introduction of Canon's R - followed by the more affordable RP - there are now two choices in each camp - to compete with the likes of Sony's seven? - is it? … and Fuji's APS-C offerings. I wish I had the answers to give you, but, I don't. The Canon RP - seems in many ways a more sensible choice than the almost equally new 6D2 … but the latter still beckons more strongly. I jumped ship from Canikon in 2014 to offerings from both Sony and Pentax in order to gain IBIS - which I thought would contribute to greater stability in my images. It did. So, if I were to jump into Mirror-less - it would make sense to go for a Z6 (or Z7) which BOTH incorporate IBIS - right?
So, please convince me, some of you - which would be the most logical route to take. My lenses include a dozen EOS (only two of which are EF-S) and a little over a half-dozen Nikkors (2 of which are OEM, with the other five being Sigma or Tokina glass.) Pricewise - I can envision managing $1300 for the RP, but that's it!

What are you trying to achieve with a new camera purchase?
Go into a camera store, handle the different models, and look through the viewfinders.
What feels best for you, what will be the intended use and how easy are they to use.
That may help you make a decision.
You may find you do not need to buy more gear, to improve your photography.

No camera stores near here, anymore, Richard.

Look - whilst I wrote that Topic Post as though I were the one looking for help (as I thought it would bring more impromptu answers) - in fact, I wrote it as a General Topic Post - to engage those who use BOTH types - to want to list the differences, and which they feel is the better system, overall, at that price point.

I like both styles, and I’m a Nikon fan. I gave up my D7200 and lenses and opted for the Sony A6300 for the lighter weight. I still like the DSLR, but I can’t justify both. I understand some of the benefits of mirrorless, yet I appreciate the large OVF of the DSLR, as well as the fast focusing system. On the other hand I appreciate looking through the EVF or looking at the rear screen of the mirrorless and seeing how changing settings changes how the image looks, knowing what the final image will be like. I really can’t say that I prefer one over the other. I simply went for lighter weight and a bit more compact camera.

That can be done on the SLTs as well, Greg. Do you still use the D7200 from time-to-time?

What OTHER advantages are there, to the a6300, over the D7200, other than compact size, and less weight?

Nope, sold the Nikon D7200.

Pretty much the advantage, for me are mainly the size and weight, and the fact that the lenses are lighter, at least for the APS-C sensor cameras. I can’t say that it take better images than the D7200, as the sensor is likely the same one as in the Nikon. I’m a pretty basic guy, so I don’t use a lot of the features on the A6300. The fact that it has a burst rate of 11fps isn’t much of a draw to me, as I don’t do action photography, but it’s nice to know it’s there should I ever take that up. For me, the both work well, but I don’t have the D7200 anymore, and if I wanted one again, which isn’t out of the realm of possibility, I’d have to go used or refurb market to get one. Looks like no one sells new D7200’s anymore. But in any case, I’m satisfied with what I have. What I don’t understand is all the controversy and endless threads devoted to DSLR vs. mirrorless. Yes, the market seems to be drifting slowly toward the mirrorless version, but I suppose by the time they decide to quit marketing DSLR’s and mirrorless has itself firmly established as the mainstay of the digital camera market, some new and different mode will show up and it’ll begin all over again, mirrorless vs whatever the new way is. I likely will no longer be around by that time.

The only people that I aware of that use both systems, are the camera test sites. You can check out some differences and conclusions at those sites.
If you want more detailed information download the user manuals from the manufacturers web sites.

Richard - I think you still don't get this - do you?

This is NOT a Personal Quest. This thread is intended to get opinions from other UHH'ers - as to which system suits THEM the best - be it Mirror-less, or DSLR!!!!

I remember you mentioning living in Danbury. I guess with your reputation, moving is compulsory. We still have shops in CT. You would have to get out of your house away from the keyboard to find them and that's unlikely. I don't get out much? You're the one without any pictures.

From personal experience using both Olympus M4/3 mirrrorless systems and Canon APS-C DSLRs it depends on what and where you are shooting.
For the quick moving subjects, like moving grandchildren, birds in flight and some sports the DSLR (with the right lenses) is superior.
For general purpose photography the Olympus sytem is better, mainly because of the smaller size (including lenses) and the live histogram in the viewfinder.

I doubt very much whether the sensor in both the a6300 and D7200 is the same, Greg. The former is a compact camera. The D7200 is still available. Why, I even know a place which has a brand new D90!!!!

I did this post - in order to get an assessment from those few UHH'ers who have BOTH FF MILC systems and FF DSLRs. Your status in reference to that - wasn't the same - before, and isn't now, either …

I don't expect there will be any newer way, anytime soon. I think MILCs are it - as far as "newness" !!!

Caught again at what, Haydon?

Let me remind you - I've lived here in Connecticut since 1958 - which is probably a lot longer than YOU!

And, you - are not accounting for traffic, Haydon … 45 minutes is an absolute LAUGH!

It's more like an hour and a half - from here … or DOUBLE that!

Open a map and look. With luck you won't need help in directions. I do remember....you live in Danbury unless that's a lie.
