KEH, B&H, Adorama - Good.
Amazon, Ebay - OK if you are careful and know what you are doing (like me).
MPB - Never heard of them. That may mean little.

KEH and Adorama, very good past dealings with them. B&H not so good when it comes to computers...questionable practices. I don't do Ebay or Paypal, so not an option for me. Thanks for sharing, lamiaceae.

I'm on my phone so it's hard to look back. It was the B&H comment I believe that you're referring to?

I have dealt with both. Extremely reputable and honest. And both have excellent warranties on most of the equipment they sell at 180 days, but for the lowest rating, and have excellent return policies. Equipment ratings can be trusted.

Good to know I can't go wrong with either company, RKL.

If you were looking at my own comment about B&H, not a good experience at all. The story actually got worse after the initial post. https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-343933-1.html

I bought several lenses from KEH. Lenses were better than described. You can return them if unsatisfied.
I would not hesitate to buy from KEH.

S--t happens sometimes. The question is, did they make good on it? That would be my concerns because I have always had no problems with them. Including returns.

I consider the amount of cash UHH member ask for tends to be on the high side.

I disagree. Iโ€™ve bought and sold a few items via the UHH classified ads. Those that are priced too high simply languish and donโ€™t sell. Most items are priced competitively and if a potential buyer doesnโ€™t agree, she/he can always make a counter offer.

I have purchase used gear from KEH and sold gear to KEH. All my experiences have been event free and without any drama. I sold some gear when someone from the company came during a road trip, and set up in a local hotel. I came in and waited a few minutes as others were finalizing their transactions. My time came up and the KEH representative was professional and courteous. He gave me a quotation and I accepted, he wrote me a check on the spot, and I was pleased with the amount and the transaction, as was everyone else who came before me.

Does anyone have experience with both KEH and MPB? I am wondering which company has the more honest grading on their used equipment. I am looking to buy a lens and one company's Ex+ is more than the other's LN.

Both fine as is Used Photo Pro (Roberts) and B&H.

Roberts Used Photo Pro is excellent - as is B&H. Have done business with both for years.

I've had recent excellent experience with both mpb and KEH. Just bought a Fujinon XF 35mm f2 lens from KEH which they rated "Excellent+" when it looks absolutely brand new. A few months ago, I traded a Fuji X-T1 for a Fuji X-T2 with mpb and, again, the X-T2 was rated "LN" and it indeed looks (and behaves) brand new. In my humble estimation both companies are conservative in their ratings. Also, you have a grace period during which you can test the equipment and return it if you think it was improperly rated. I believe both companies are generally considered conservative in their ratings. If either company has what you want at what you are willing to pay, I'd say "go for it."

I have made numerous purchases from KEH and find their grading system reflects a professional photographers opinion - what I would call near mint they call very good - never have had a bad experience with KEH.

I have bought fine used equipment, appropriately graded by the vendor, from the following (MPB, KEH, UsedPhotoPro-Roberts, Adorama, B&H, Cameta) and have heard good about Hunt's and Samy's. The items from MPB have been spotless, and appeared either unused, or (if camera body) you could only tell by shutter count, all the rest have been good vendors, and the merchandise has been excellent, and I feel the grading was honest.

I am a very picky buyer, so it all has to line up and check the right boxes, or I go elsewhere. If I ever decide to re-sell an item, I want to be in possesion of the best example I could find, appropriate to $$ invested.

For camera bodies - Some do provide shutter count, some do not, my money usually goes where the information, pictures and shutter count are provided, Note - I've sent none back. With camera bodies, I want to know everything prior to shipment, I don't want to find out the fine looking camera has 50K shutter count, when I could buy a "hardly used" version for similar money from another vendor.

Lenses - I've bought from all above, only returned one to KEH as it was just as bad as they described (I had hope for it), but issues with AF and VR - shake, rattle and roll, all the time.....it would have been a good manual lens, but was costly to repair, requires laser equipment to properly re-set. In each case the re-seller has provided accurate description, but some do tell you more, and I want to know the whole deal, no surprises.

I do buy used from Ebay and even here on UHH, No bad experiences on UHH, several on Ebay, but all were resolved by either the vendor or Ebay, to my satisfaction.

My $.02

I have never heard of MPB but I have been dealing with KEH for years and have always had good experiences with them. The equipment is often in better condition than rated. I have also had good experiences buying used from Adormama and B and H but they do not have the selection that KEH has. I believe KEH is the largest dealer of used camera equipment in the world.
