Compared to...?

I was thinking about selling some gear and sent the list to KEH, Adorama and MPB. MPB quoted the highest quote.

A while back I had three lenses to sell and found that KEH and MPB alternated on who was high or low, but the bottom line was a wash. The more I hear back from others, the more I am impressed with both companies being first-class operations.

Cameta camera body had a SC of 50. KEH camera body had a SC of 2580 on it. MBP posts the SC on there postings. I have purchased many lens from KEH and only one had to be exchanged for a better quality lense. KEH makes it easy to make things right and at a fair price. I have never yet sold back a piece of camera equipment so I have NO info about that part. I have never purchased new cameras, yet have NOT had a concern with used stuff. I have found KEH has lens pouches for a great price.

Did they then, after you sent your gear to them, send you a check in the same amount as the quote?

In my opinion you really can't go wrong with KEH, (unfamiliar with MPB). You might also want to check Used Camera Pro from Roberts Camera in Indianapolis. Never a complaint with them.

I purchased a D90 in March from MPB in like new condition, less than 4000 clicks with 6 mo warranty. Really was in perfect like new condition. Would purchase again without a second thought.

Does anyone have experience with both KEH and MPB? I am wondering which company has the more honest grading on their used equipment. I am looking to buy a lens and one company's Ex+ is more than the other's LN.

I have been buying used camera gear from KEH for over 15yrs, never have been disappointed.

I have been purchasing stuff from KEH since they started a business to me they have always been honest with their grading but if you want very good items, get them refurbished from Canon or Nikon. They always have good stuff and you get a full warranty as if the items were new.

I buy from KEH.
Their ratings are under rated.
Their idea of "good" is many other vendors' idea of "very good".
Maybe mistakes happen, but I trust them.

They have for me, more than once. Truely, for anyone considering selling via one of the major re-sellers - if you are accurate in your description (if it has marks or marring, something isn't perfect, hi count, etc. don't expect to sell it as "excellent", it isn't) they all will pay you their quote, some will negotiate, but that usually requires a high demand/low availability, excellent condition/like new item, AND some effort on your part..

Good example - The Nikon D7100 sold very well, many bought it, and now those same folks are trading in and upgrading, and guess what, they are not bringing much money now - success was the enemy! If you look at the vendors you are trying to sell to and see that they have 25 of a certain model, do not expect top dollar - supply and demand.

At one of the majors (best offer I got that day) even with a mint, excellent condition US model, low count/box & accessories - will only bring $130 to 150 by their grading systems, and negotiation will get you to $200 (I have the emails). When we were talking the rep said he felt like he was insulting me, but they had well over 30 on hand, and that was the highest amount he was allowed to offer. He apologized, he said it was a very successful Nikon model, everyone seems to be upgrading at the same time, the market speaks........and I decided to keep the camera.

I have purchased all of my present equipment used from MPB. They have the best prices (far lower than KEH) and their standards are much higher, IMHO. When I purchased my Nikon D7000 with less that 5000 clicks (five months ago), it looked like it had just been taken out of its box for the first time! And its condition was rated Good - I can't image what Excellent or Like New would be - factory delivered, perhaps? If the original boxes are not provided by the seller, parts like lenses come shipped in thick, triple-wrapped heavy-duty bubble wrap, taped and packed extremely well. I am a very happy and satisfied customer!

KEH has purchased a number of cameras and I have purchased several lenses and other equipment. There rating system is excellent and EX+ like new as far as I’m concerned. No trouble buying from them.
