Yes as the cameras were improved changes were made but the basic mount remained the same. Previous Nikon owners were not phased out by a product change that caused them to purchase new lenses for instance. For the most part Nikon didn't ATTEMPT to maintain comparability, the DID maintain it.

Yes, I absolutely concur....the Nikon F mount is the same "basic" mount as ever. The problem has been keeping that same basic mount while asking bodies and lenses to do a lot more, like autofocus, exposure automation, etc., while maintaining as much backwards-compatibility as possible.

I have nothing against Nikon users and their choice of camera. I was not a Nikon film camera user, so I didn't have Nikon's compatibilities to deal with (or not).
I was a Canon user before digital, and the EOS lens-mount change didn't really bother me.

What does get me going on this subject is the abundance of Nikon users who act superior, even going as far as telling people to dump Canon ...just because they feel Nikon is "better".

That's all I have to say on this.

You can say what you want and certainly end your conversation when you want. But since you brought it up I and certainly others will say that some Canon users are just as adamant about Canon cameras as are Nikon users. To my way of thinking 99% of either side are joking in a good natured way. Funny you missed THOSE gosh durned Canon users saying Canon was better. Maybe you just have a thin skin.

Yeah, that's why all the pro photographers at the game sidelines are shooting the white lens.

Be careful about that statement, if you haven't noticed there's another "white" shooter in town and goes by the name Sony!

Thank you for not directing your post at me although that is exactly what you did. No problem here though. My comment was meant to be a good natured rib at Canon owners though I have owned several Canons, Rolleiflex TLR, Mamiya TLR, Hasselblad(s), several Leicas (both rangefinder and SLR), three 4X5’s, and numerous Nikons and some miscellaneous not so well known cameras. Like you I enjoyed each camera and have never had a problem with any camera. All were splendid performers when I did my part.

A pleasure hearing from you.

Thanks Dennis, I like your last two locations and was so glad to have our son move out of Apple Valley. They are now in Castle Rock Colorado and they love it there although the grand kids miss So Cal. Enjoy your trip down Photography Lane, I have. So nice to hear from someone with a level head.

As a former Nikon AND Canon user who has used seven Nikon cameras, nine Nikon lenses, six Canon bodies, and six Canon lenses, I have to say that Nikon clung too long to their beloved F mount. It has limited users, not enabled them.

Canon got it mostly right. Yes, we were pissed for a short while when the FD/FL mount died, but the advantages of EOS were — are — worth it.

The idea that the F Mount was “unchanged” for 60 years is BS. There are many variations of it. So you can fit the lens onto the body. So what? Who wants to limit a 2019 body to the function of a 1959 or (in my case) a 1969 lens? I don’t. My kids don’t, either.

Mirrorless is a blessing, for it will push technology forward and empower photographers in ways that clinging to history can’t.

Modern cameras perform best with modern native lenses. That’s expensive — I get that. But the reverse is also true. Would you (try to) put a 2019 lens on a Nikon FTn and not get frustrated? Where’s the frigging aperture ring or meter coupling pin???
