"Photos" is an integral part of Windows 10, including the very latest update to Version 1903. 1903 does not remove it ( I have updated six computers and I still have Photos on all of them). Isn't it in your Start menu?

What Windows 10 DOES eliminate is the previous "Photo Viewer" program.

If you updated a computer that had Photo Viewer on it, it is still there, hiding. This link shows how to make it available:

I am losing my Mac Laptop at the end of the summer, and, for quick basic edits on jpegs, found that Photos worked really well for this (a bit of straightening, sharpening, auto-color correction, maybe a quick vignette). These are used only as quick uploads to a social media share site (think parents of sports teams) As is obvious, this program will not port easily onto my Windows machine.

While I can do full editing for my RAW photos on ON1, I am looking for a very simple editor that is - really - just the equivalent of photos on the Mac. Yes, I know ON1 can do everything (and much more), but it takes much longer for these quick sort/edits, so I wanted to ask if there is “quick and dirty” option (not LR, etc - something simple)

Thanks in advance for your guideance and advice

My Daughter refuses to learn anything beyond "Auto" on the Nikon D80 that I gave her. She always uses "Photoscape" for any kind of post processing and I believe it is free. She actually does pretty good with "Photoscape".

No idea why my Reset (done after 1802) wiped out Faststone, IrfanView, and MS Photos …

Maybe I have a virus, which hasn't been detected by the AVU ….

Note: - the other Photo Editor I lost a few weeks ago, as you can see - was FotoSketcher …

I think the LAST Win 10 Update - wiped out IrfanView … I guess these programs are not 64-bit.

Win 10 Version 1903 has been out of Beta for months now.

1903 does not remove programs which are not components of Windows itself. It DOES remove some features of Windows that MS decided to do away with.

If it really removed apps installed by you on your computer, there's something else going on.

If your Win 10 is/was 32-bit, the 1903 upgrade would not change that.

Hasn't Win 10 ALWAYS been a 64-bit OS, Nadelewitz?

What actually happened is - all of my bookmarks were removed, somehow. When I did a query about how to restore them - the suggestion was that I do a Reset. Afterwards - I got that list I posted to Mark earlier.

Right now - I guess I'm stuck on the following aspect of my latest Win 10 Upgrade:

2019-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4503286)

Nadelewitz - I think you wrote that wrong - didn't you? … This is what you wrote:

"1903 does not remove programs which are not components of Windows itself. It DOES remove some features of Windows that MS decided to do away with."

I think you meant - "1903 does not remove programs which are components of Windows itself. It DOES remove some features of Windows that MS decided to do away with."

Regardless - I no longer have my MS Photos app - which is supposed to be an integrated component of Windows 10 (and all prior versions back to Vista.) I miss it, terribly. One reason is - when you go to upload pics from your camera - it used to automatically appear, and take over management of the Upload.

But, now - you have to futz around with File Icons, and save them to the Desktop (or to Photos) and THEN bring them up in Paint for resizing - which is a lotta hassle. I want MS Photos back! When I did a query - the response was to do a Reset - which, supposedly, would uninstall the app and then reinstall it. Hate to tell you this - but, it doesn't do any such thing! Must have done it, now - as much as TEN TIMES!!

Chris, it looks like what removed your apps was the reset and not the update.
Probably the reset you did took Windows 10 either to a default status or to a previous point where those apps were not installed and therefore were removed.

Chris,

I think Naddlewitz hit the mark. You Reset your PC - not the same as an update. Might you have a backup of your Win 10 OS prior to the update and or reset?
If you like, I can offer you a clean version of Picasa 3. If interested, PM me with your email address. I will email an invite from my Dropbox. You may download the setup file. Picasa works well, but its former email feature is not functioning.

Good luck,
Mark

Hi

thanks for all the ideas. I will take a look as FastStone. I don’t want put them in the cloud, and, Windows Photos (at least the version I have) seems clumsy working on culling and processing 200+ photos at a time.

Windows from 7 on to 10 comes in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Actually, there was 64-bit XP in addition to the common 32, but it was not widely used. 32-bit Win 10 will probably disappear before too long. Computers made in the last twelve years or so can run 64-bit.

The photo app that was part of Windows 7 and 8 (and Vista maybe?) was called "PHOTO VIEWER".
Windows 10 replaced it with "PHOTOS".

Juan - it was a three-step process. First, the Update removed the bookmarks. THEN, after querying what happened, it was suggested I do the OS Reset - in order to get the missing bookmarks back. I complied, and then found - the OS had removed all those previously-listed programs (including Opera - ouch!) - but, it didn't restore the bookmarks, and then, I discovered MS Photo had been removed as well. So, after I did the query about that - the response was to do a reset of the Photo app. So, I did, to NO AVAIL!

Why, that's very nice of you, Mark. Sure - I'd be happy to do that. Screw the e-mail function - won't need it. ... Not sure how you you can make a clean version of the Win 10 OS prior to an update. Obviously, I never did it, so, I don't have such a beast. I do have a fully functioning MS Photos app, on the other PC, though - but, I'm not so sure it's copyable - OS to OS. (This PC - is further advanced in the Win 10 version upgrade process - than that one is, though.) ...

You are confused. I meant what I said. Your first sentence is just the opposite of what I said, and opposite your second sentence.

Just PM me your email address and I'll send you the download from my Dropbox.

As an aside - consider establishing a backup copy of your Win10 OS. I use Acronis, but there are many other apps that will suffice. It has saved my butt quite a few times.
I await the PM.

Oh, was it, Nadelewitz? … Hadn't realized there was an earlier name for MS Photos.

I didn't know you could get Win 10 in a 32-bit version, still … that, probably, won't last long …

64-bit XP, was there? … Oh, yes, I remember. My 6-core AMD ran it …
