I’ve used an iPad Pro for some years, first one was 256 gig, the current one is new iPad Pro 3rd generation with 1 tera. memory. I’ve been using iCloud too since the first iPad and have linked all my devices (iPhone, both iPads, and my iMac) to the photos in iCloud. I’ve also hooked the iPad to wireless drives (Wacom) to work with Lightroom and Photoshop. I’m very pleased with the interaction that they all provide.
Right now carry a compact Aukey power bank. 30,000 mAh.

Keep in mind that the new iPadOS will support connecting flash drives and external drives. Beta testers say some external drives require too much power to work, though. Should be a big help.
I use a 256gb flash drive on my IPad that also has a 128gb internal memory.
It also has a USB connector so I can download pics from my laptop to view on the iPad.
