Can you get down to those rapids for shots?

Doesn't look like it. People are supposed to stay on the paved paths.

Back in the late ‘60’s, we were able to hike to the very top of the falls; I’ve never seen photos from that perspective, so I think at some point, they stopped allowing that. Any one else remembers-or is age fogging my memory?

My wife hiked all the way to the top on the path, she has two new knees and was testing them out. When she reached the top, the view from where she could see down was not good for taking in the falls (she says and who am I to question). So she never took any photos except on the way up. I could not tell you if there was any good photo ops since she did not take any.

I have a request for everyone putting scenery shots on here...please put where you took them! There are places that I'd like to visit and I can find some of them on the net but it would be so much simpler if y'all would put a city or state where these can be found. Thanks!!!

I did say Portland, OR. Hope this helps the second time around.

I love waterfalls. This is a spectacular one. Yes the best lens for a shot is often the one we left behind.

Multnomah Falls is about 33 miles east of Portland, OR on I84 or roughly 23 miles west of the Dalles, Or west bound on I84. The closest town, wide spot in the road, is Odell Or. The parking for the falls is between the east bound and west bound freeway. If you are heading to Portland and driving and have some time and want some great scenery take the historic road from Multnomah Falls to Portland. There are many different falls that are less visited but easily accessible such as Bridal Vale Falls (118ft high) and Latourell Falls (249ft high). You can also stop and visit Crown Point and Vista House.

Crown Point promontory sits at a elevation of 733 feet at the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge. It was built between 1913-1923 at the cost of $100,000. It was a rest stop for those traveling the state-of-the-art highway that remains one of the earliest examples of modern, cliff-face road building.

Vista House winter hours are Fri, Sat & Sun from 10am to 4pm, weather permitting. Spring hours are daily, from 10am to 4pm, and Summer (after May 1) daily from 9am to 6pm.

Crown Point is a excellent place to photograph the mighty Columbia River and the gorge. On good days you can see Portland some 25 miles to the west of Crown Point.

Hope that gives you an idea about the area. If you want to see something cool visit Multnomah Falls during the winter when it freezes over That is worth the drive alone.

Thanks...I hope to get there some day. My comment wasn't pointed to the falls as much as just a general comment about seeing some fantastic places that I might like to visit before I croak but contributors on here usually don't bother to put where their shots were taken.
