In my humble opinion, to get films to be "sensitized" would be even more difficult.
And it would not cut the hands-on part of film processing.

By digital negative I meant a thin, translucent display that would fit into a negative carrier. This would allow an Omega, Durst, etc. to be like a De Vere, allowing convenient enlarging from JPG files on photo paper in a darkroom. It don't miss so much working with film and negatives given the results that today's digital cameras provide, I do miss being able to print with a relatively simple and inexpensive setup. Eventually I may end up buying a De Vere.

The thing I mentioned that my friend was chosen to be a test lab for, was a LCD that would be transparent until powered and about the same thickness as a negative carrier, in which it would fit in the appropriate place. Something the thickness of a piece of film isn't something that's in your future.

That was my first thought as well, that is, to replace the carrier itself. A problem would be the different form factors based on the model of the enlarger. A display with the total thickness equaling film would be fragile. The results using a quality enlarger and lens could be quite good, except for the main problem being insufficient market demand.

De Vere did make such a panel. They call it the LCD digital negative panel and can be put in place of the negative carrier.

That's great news, news to me anyway. Now to find one.

I don't worry about the exposure time, color of the light just yet. The problem with using a digital projector limited right now to 4K and I am not sure the OP is considering 4K projector. The projector lens isn't designed to be as sharp as an enlarging lens besides it only operates at maximum aperture.

Agree.
