I think the new 6D2 uses the new .cr3 format....

No, the 6D2 produces CR2 "Raw" files. (Only a few, more recent cameras that use the Digic 8 processor make the new CR3 format. These are mostly cameras that are capable of shooting "4K" video. The 6D2 uses a Digic 7 processor, is limited to HD video and produces CR2 Raw files.)

Even so, a newer camera's files may be incompatible with older software... Basically, there are "different" CR2 files.

We need clarification from the original poster of what software they are trying to use to "view" those files. Depending upon what that might be, we may then need to know the version of the software.

For example:

If you're simply trying to "see" the images in Windows system browser or Windows Picture Viewer, all you need to do is install a "codec" onto your computer. I recommend FastPictureViewer codec, which costs all of $10 and makes Windows capable of "seeing" virtually any RAW file type, as well as many other types of files that it can't normally display.

This DOES NOT give you any means to work on, enhance and edit those images in Windows. But it can be very helpful if trying to find a particular image, etc. You'll be able to see them as "thumbnails" in browser "icon" view (your choice of small, medium, large). You can also enlarge any particular image in Windows Picture Viewer and, depending upon Windows version, possibly some other media viewers. However, be aware that RAW files won't appear true color... Those programs aren't color calibrated, so the images will look low contrast and somewhat desaturated.

If you are using a Windows based machine want it, the codec can be purchased and downloaded from: https://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/ (I have no financial interest in it, am just a long time and happy user of it... I've got it on my desktop and two different laptops.)

If you're using another software program to view and work with your images, it needs to be up to date enough to work with the 6DII's RAW files.

For example, Adobe products need to be new enough to have and use Adobe Camera Raw 9.12 or later. "ACR" is the "engine" at the core of Adobe Elements, Lightroom and Photoshop that makes it possible to work with RAW files in those programs and convert RAW data into usable images. ACR is an integral part of both Elements and Lightroom... in order to "update" ACR, you need to update the entire program. To use ACR 9.12 you need Lightroom CC 2015 or later, or Elements 2018 or later. In Photoshop ACR is a part of Bridge, which is a module of sorts and can be updated separately from the rest of the program... up to a point. Basically, though, to handle 6DII CR2 files you need Photoshop CC 2018 or later.

Other image cataloging and editing software will have similar limitations, if you are using something besides Adobe products. Check with the software manufacturer what version is needed to work with 6DII's CR2 files. They probably have info on their websites. Or contact them through their support.

If you have an older software that you wish to continue to use, especially Elements, Lightroom or Photoshop, Adobe offers a free, downloadable "DNG Converter". This will convert your CR2 into Adobe's DNG file type, which is sort of a "universal digital negative" that can be worked in many older software programs. I don't know how compatible DNG is with products other than Adobe's... if you're using something else. You'd have to check if it can handle DNGs. I know Adobe Photoshop CS6 and CS5 can work with DNG. Lightroom 6 and Lightroom 5 can, too. So can some older Elements, though I don't know the exact versions.

If you go this route, I recommend you keep your CR2 files, along with the DNG that are converted from them. At least keep the "important" ones. This because some users have reported "problems" with DNG in other applications and ended up regretting not having their original files to work with after they'd changed what they were using or upgraded to new software that was capable of handling them. (If you want more info, Google "DNG problems" and you'll find some discussions online.)

Hope this helps!

I have a new Canon 6D Mark II and cannot read raw files,
I'm told they do not have a code for it.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

Who does not have a code for it (everybody should by now, since that is an old camera)?
