I also have the G2 and use it on my Canon 7D Mk II for my granddaughters softball games. It's a big lens, and for me, a bit heavy but it does create great pictures.

BTW, I've had two typical New Jersey smart asses ask if I was checking the players dental work. LOL

Good luck

This was from a Tamron authorized dealer, just in Canada. Great price plus a then ridiculously favorable exchange rate!

That 'ridiculous' exchange rate (or one hell of a sale) must have been quite a while ago.

I took a look, most Canadian dealers are asking about CA$1900 for the Tamron 150-600mm G2. The current exchange is US$0.76 = CA$1.00, so the US equivalent is US$1400 - not a good deal at all!! Most US dealers are $1200 to $1300 for this lens.

It comes with a hood and bag as others have stated.
NC filter is about 95.00 from B&H photo.
I use it to protect the outer glass as the price to replace the outer glass is about $ 500.00 or so I’ve heard. Cheap protection.
The hood is about 4 inches long so your choice depending on where you’re shooting. ( Hiding in bramble and bushes etc. )

Don't use a UV filter and you don't need a doc just set the fine focus adjust at 600 mm

This is BAD guidance. The UV filter is appropriate just as it is for other lenses. The TAP-IN Console is necessary to upload current software to lens and to fine tune the focus of the lens. You calibrate at 3 distances and six focal lengths per distance. The fine tune in the camera is ultimately set to zero. The calibration is necessary because Tamron does not have access to the compensation function used by the camera manufacturers. Also the hood is desirable to improve scene contrast and such. Look at Amazon and you can find bundles including the TAP-IN Console, hood, hard lens case, and stuff you may not need. 😃

I’ll use the lens hood for protection. I never use UV filters as I view them as an unnecessary piece of glass that the light must pass thru which could affect image quality. Also I don’t order from amazon, I’ll order directly from a reputable source. Going through Amazon I never know who the actual vendor is.

Walt,
The lenses are designed expecting a QUALITY filter will be used. Also, if you look at the Amazon offering, it tells who is the vendor. I purchased mine through Amazon which also was fulfilled by Amazon for a reputable photo company in Florida who is an authorized vendor for Tamron, Nikon, Canon, etc. Price was excellent, USA warranty, etc.

Since when? If they were designing for a filter to always be used they would just build the filter in. If I knew a given lens was designed to only work well with a filter, quality or otherwise I would get a different lens.
The 100-400L mk 1 for one had a reputation of not playing well with any filter. I know mine lost IQ with a filter. The AF also seemed to be a bit slower in some light conditions.

And I go with "use the hood" to protect the front of the lens.

That Florida dealer who sells a lot through Amazon sounds like Digital Goja - I have bought a few things, including my Tamron 150-600 G2, from them.

If you have a Nikon buy a 200-500. If you don't have a Nikon buy one

1. Like anything, some lenses are designed one way and others another.

2. Yes, you have the correct dealer. Their Amazon bundle was better and lower price than on their website. Only memory card, Console, and hard case were of use to me. Rest of the stuff I gave away. Hard case doesn’t hold the hood however.

It’s really irrelevant what camera I use, as they make the same lens for both Canon and Nikon. All I was asking is does a lens hood come with it. That’s pretty much a yes or no answer. The answer is yes. No more discussion needed. But if you wish to know which camera I use, its at the bottom of every post I make in the signature line.

It does make a difference as we don't know if it has fine focus adjust so we don't know if you need a dock.

I will get my magnifying glass out in future and read the bottom grey line ...

Some very high end scientific lenses (telescopes etc) are designed to have front/back elements/filters changed for different uses. In those the filter is part of the lens, but changeable.
For most the best comparison is a power tool like a drill or grinder, without an attachment it is just a noise maker, put on different attachments and it become useful for different applications.

You don’t really understand very well do you. I only asked if a hood is included. Asked and answered. Whether I need or even want a dock is irrelevant. As the OP, I believe I have my answer. Period.
