I’m considering the purchase of this lens and have a question. I’ve never seen this lens in any literature or ads or online offerings that show or even mention a lens hood for it. Does it come with a hood? Is one not recommended for it? For those who have it - does anyone use a hood with it? In the photos I’ve seen of it, the front element just looks very vulnerable.

My G2 came with a hood. It makes the lens look gigantic, but very light weight. Don't get a grey lens, it may not come with a hood or warranty.

Comes with a deep hood, gray market or no. I got mine from a dealer in Canada for about $500 less than if I'd bought it in the US.

Thank you. I mostly needed to know if one should be included or not. I will not be buying grey market. Will only buy from reputable dealer.

This was from a Tamron authorized dealer, just in Canada. Great price plus a then ridiculously favorable exchange rate!

Every Tamron lens made comes with the appropriate matched hood included in the box.

And the included tripod collar has two mount points so the long plate for my Nest gimbal anchors at both ends. No more twisting and loosening the mount screw while using.

Don't use a UV filter and you don't need a doc just set the fine focus adjust at 600 mm

Yes, I have this lens - comes with a hood in the box, along with a drawstring bag case which I don't use. One accessory that I recommend is the tap in console - about $60 extra...but I got mine for free when I bought this lens new last year plus a $100 rebate (at B&H). Yes, it's a large front element so hood use is highly recommended - not only to protect but also to reduce glare/increase contrast...some recommend a sacrificial filter but it will be costly for this large diameter and it won't keep glare away. BTW the front element is fluorine coated.

I have been told by Tamron that the Canadian version will not be serviced by Tamron in the US.
Has that been your experience?

I haven't needed any service, but my understanding is that I would have to send it back to Canada. Of course, that's a short trip from Maine

Great lens. I use it with a 7 D mkii. My wife uses the Nikon mount with a Nikon D 500. Use it principally for BIF. We are both pleased with the AF and IQ.

It comes with a lens hood and a tripod collar that has a Arca mount built in. Also the lens has a $40 option "the Tap-in Console" for fine tuning for lens to your camera. I've had mine for 3 years and I love it. I just sent mine back to Tamron for a cleaning and look over. They are also replacing the rubber grips at no charge. The lens has a 6 year warrantee. I highly recommend this lens. The shot if this Snail Kite below was taken with the Tamron 150-600 and a D850
