My favorite from that era (and my first car) was a white ‘65 Pontiac Tempest with nearly identical headlight cowlings to that posted by Rob48 and *genuine* turquoise vinyl upholstery. Of course I ‘pimped it out’ with a Muntz 8-track deck and a leather steering wheel cover.😎

I had a 66 tempest with the OHC 6 and 3 spd, my brother ended up with it when I picked up a 64 Malibu for a hot rod project. The Tempest was a nice ride, looked like a GTO from a distance!!!!

Well they say that, NOT say a '67 and post a pic of a '65. Thats just border line ignorant. Ones posts reveal much about that person so why make such statements? You will always get called on them when you do!

I made a mistake, so stop pontificating already. Move on if you can.

pontificate
[ noun pon-tif-i-kit, -keyt; verb pon-tif-i-keyt ]|

nounthe office or term of office of a pontiff.
verb (used without object), pon·tif·i·cat·ed, pon·tif·i·cat·ing.
to perform the office or duties of a pontiff.
to speak in a pompous or dogmatic manner:
to serve as a bishop, especially in a Pontifical Mass.

Very nice 65, I've always had a love of A-body GM's. I had a Metallic Green 68 GTO, Ram Air, Hurst CR 4 Spd, 355 Positrac rear, functional scoops (DIY mod), headers, Edlebrock intake, monster quadrajet, 8 track, etc. Great car, great fun, and once I learned how to launch it, quite potent on the drag strip/back roads. Ran in the low 12's street stock on radials in a "full 1/4 mile" 1320 ft over in Bithlo (drag strip just east of Orlando), none of this 1000' or 1/8 mile stuff they do now. Top out around 140. Doesn't sound that fast by todays standards, but in 68-72 there were only a couple cars in our little town that could best it. If I remember correctly, it was approx $4600 off the lot. When I graduated HS in 70 my Dad gave it to me in trade for my very nice 64 Malibu. I wish I still had both of them. I have a couple old faded pictures somewhere, and some excellent memories. Grandma and I became an item while I had those two cars, we still are.

I love this story, may I call you Mike; thank you very much for this information. This is what fills out a post like this; again, thanks.

👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Thank you for sharing, olemikey. My ‘65 was an OHC 6cyl, too.

Hey Rob, that's better than what a lot of em call me!!!!!!!!!!! I'm an old car guy, backyard mechanic (and I really mean backyard, I rebuilt that very same 64 Malibu engine under a tent), my first repair memories are helping my dad do a valve job on a old Renault Dauphine, as a young boy. I also helped get that same car off him when it fell off the jack stands while he was working under it, thank the maker that it was small and light weight!!! Decades of memories come from posts like this!! If I had only been able to keep al the classics I've owned, I could have sold them and retired rich!!!! But at least I'm rich with memories..

Yes you did. Which I politely pointed out only 11 minutes after you posted it. You had LOTS of time to correct the problem but instead chose to tell me to "go suck an egg". Your ignorance has now been carved in stone as it were. So sorry you have to lead such a sad and unfulfilling life and stoop to name calling over your own failures! I am done here, your ignorance is clearly on display for all to see. You claim to be a "teacher"? I feel very sorry for any students who have had to deal with such ignorance in a classroom!!!!! Good bye.

In was going to post this (attachment 1), but you started the insults (attachments 2 and 3) which grew in (attachment 4) to a full rant. I may submit your insanity to Admin for their perusal. Have a nice day.

Yes, the 67 GTO's side emblem behind the front wheels were lower located in the trim, which was higher. The 66 had the first sleeker body style and higher side emblems, along with a triangular end tail light design (the 67 had a softer rectangular assembly). And as MT Shooter points out, the grill is definitely an earlier model as is the silhouette, too boxy. I had the 67, a showroom model with the Hurst double shifter... too fun!

Disappointed to read 67 GTO and see a different car.

The 1969 Pontiac GTO was my first car. I bought it used in 75 and paid $600 for it. Back then a 6 year old car was a junk car and it sure was. i used it for less than a year before I junked it. Police kept stopping me for no reason when I drove it. They did it so many times so later they got to know me quite well enough to let me got away with some minor violations when I had the new car.

Thank you very much for your input, jdubu, but I did post a correction as well as two photos of a 1967 GTO.
