I like the picture that sets a mood. It does do that. We had quite a storm last weekend. My son was out of electricity for 6 hours, could have been worse. Had more rain last night. Looks like you did too. Haven't had to water but one or two times this year so far.

I like this shot. For me there is a story to be told. The adult, “what am I now going to do with these kids”. The two on the left “we want to go out and play”. The two on the right, one say into to the other, “why you asking me why it’s raining, I dunno”.

When I first started learning photography one of my goals was to be able to tell a story with my photo. It's not always easy, at least for me. My emotional attachment to the subject can sometimes cloud my judgement. I really glad this story came through so clear. Thanks for commenting Frank.

An excellent photograph. Love the lighting, the positioning of the figures and the atmosphere all enhanced by the noise.
In the days of film I would often use fast films to give a granular effect. Sometimes (through lack of light) it was necessary, but occasionally on purpose, but always trying to use it to enhance the photograph.
Noise doesn’t always work (as it has done here) as well as grain, but I hope to try some shots at high ISO to replicate grainy film photographs. So I would suggest that although this is a first don’t let it be the last time you use noise on suitable subject matter.

Thank you so much. It is definitely an option I will continue to try.

I really like this photo and the mood it shows both in the people and the gloomy weather. The exposure is first rate as is the composition. Well done.

Thanks! This may end up as a Christmas present for my brother.

Thanks Jim. I have only had to water my flowers a couple of times so far this summer with all the rain we have had. Mowing is a different story. The grass is growing so fast I think I could mow every other day and still not keep up with it.

Very good moment to catch, and almost all aspects catch the momentary, "Impressionistic" aspect. However, I think the color is too dramatic, almost like a diorama rather than a moment in real time. So, with that as my challenge, here's mine. If your aim was to make it highly dramatic, then my version is inappropriate.

Oh, in the original, the attempt to make the head stand out, stood out! 😊 So, I used dodge and burn to eliminate the halo and to bring out his features.

Thanks for showing me your version Bob. I agree the color was dramatic but I didn't do any color adjustment. It was all Mother Nature. There was a green tint to the sky because of hail in the storm and it really popped the green in the trees and grass. The "halo" was actually the vapor from my nephews vape thingy. The residual was still circling around his head. The only processing I did to the photo was cropping, exposure, noise reduction and dodging my nephews face. It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature!

The noise doesn't bother me at all in this image Kenie. I think it adds to the mood. Great storytelling.

I wanted to try something out. Since you said the boys are in the barn and out of the rain I decided to take the noise out of the area that should be dry. I used a second duplicate layer and applied Noiseless Pro with a heavy setting. Then added a mask to separate the dry from the rain areas. Let me know if you like it.
