Martin, I really like the idea of attaching a ruler to the inexpensive focus rail I am now using. Even in live view, which I use, it is difficult to see where in the image the focus moves to.


I have a D7200 as well. You can Zoom in while in live view using the quail + button. This will make it easier to see......

Here's a great video from the USGS (United States Geological Survey organization) in their quest to photograph and catalog insects for the scientific and academic communities to access for study and research.

It is highly informative with techniques and equipment they use. More importantly toward the end they show how to make a simple and near no cost macro photography setup.

For anyone that has an interest in focus stacking this is well worth the little time it takes to watch it. If you go to their Flickr site the 1000+ images there are mind-blowingly amazing.
