I was in total agreement with you, BUT lens adapters to mirrorless bodies contain NO glass elements, they are (rear lens element to sensor) spacers, with electronic connections and software to allow lens focusing and aperture control and communication between lens and body. They do not degrade lens optical performance, but can cause autofocusing performance issues if the software algorithms (in the adapter and in the mirrorless body) aren't closely matched.

I should have been more precise -- the degradation I was referring to is related to autofocus, not optical, performance.

I got to see, handle and use the 200-600 lens at an event I was the photog. It is a good lens. I has interal focus and weighs less than I expected.

I just traded in my Tamron 150-600 and adapter for the Sony. WOW, love it. Close focus. Was a cloudy day so didn't get to play with it much. Shot one close focus, in the house at 1/25 of a sec hand held and it is sharp. The tripod mount is just right. Can hand hold with the mount in my palm and reach the focus/zoom/and focus hold button without moving. Loving it.
