And I only brought it up because the Brits, Canucks, Aussies and others like to mention their "free healthcare". Anybody who knows anything realizes it's not "free", somebody pays. You being in California will pay more than others. I was born, raised and lived in California for 65 years. I know about the taxes and prices. I'm just happy I moved away before I started withdrawing my 401K - didn't have to pay those California taxes on it.

My friend I am an Idaho resident and a Colorado resident before that. I have not paid taxes to California since the 1970’s.

I see my primary care physician and caradiologist every 6 months. I've always scheduled them sequentially, beginning first thing in the day (because I have to fast for the blood test, and I get hungry). Yesterday I was told I couldn't see them on the same day because insurance. Apparently the insurance company can't tell whether it's different doctors in the 25-doctor office seeing me for different things or one doctor charging twice for seeing me once, so they will only pay one doctor from a single address for seeing a particular patient. The other doctor never gets paid. So now I have to schedule appointments for these guys on separate days.

The only consolation is that the government isn't running the whole "health care" system (yet). That would get things even more screwed up.

Most of our GPs are minions of the Insurance Corps. Same thing.
I've been wheeled out of the hospital on a gurney, then wheeled back in as a "new" admission.

GovCo can fund universal coverage through individuals as far as I care. There has to be some market competition in it. There oughta be a law that medical providers have to provide rate cards for their services. It's all a total racket, now, with the insurance companies and Big Pharma and Big Hospital chains consolidating so tightly. What was once competitive to a small degree isn't. It's a small oligopoly, bordering on monopoly, and the politicians are complicit.
The worst thing we ever did was let the clinics and hospitals handle the insurance claims directly with insurers. The result is, we never see what it really costs. If most people saw un-coded, plain English, itemized invoices for what they are currently receiving, they would vomit! Then we would have a revolt, and riots in the streets.
Apria once billed my late father-in-law directly for some supplies that, in any other industry, would cost about $50. The bill was for $1856 for some basic tubing, filters, a tin can, some elastic, and molded plastic.
GovCo can fund universal coverage through individu... (show quote)

Every time I've been in a hospital, I get to see ghosts. Invisible doctors.
There's a sign in clipboard by the door- to keep the nurses honest, they need to sign in with the time. Doctors sign in, also. There's always 1 or 2 you never see. Or maybe just the back of one.
Just had another one. He comes, signs in- "EverybodyOK?Fine" and leaves. That's another $95 per patient. 2 or 3 of us in that room. There's a lot of rooms. This is what he does for lunchtime. Weekends are easier- he calls the nurses station, asks for patient status- and as long as he asks by name, it's legal.

As far as supplies costs, the hospital is doing itself a little CYA accounting. Sometimes patients don't have insurance, or enough insurance; sometimes supplies don't get logged out; sometimes insurance is "examining" why more was used here than there. So the hospital basically adds up cost plus overhead, and divides the costs among it's paying customers.

The ones here use matrix management. 30 billing means after that it's either late or a loss. If/when the
Insurance Corps pays the bill (my ambulance took 6 months!) if that payment isnot directly specified to be applied to my charge, it goes into another account. That;s how hospitals can claim they're going broke; and why health care costs rise; yet the hospitals still make millions in profit.

Sorry, my mistake. Since your location shows "So California/Colorado/Idaho" I thought you might migrate between those states during the year. Some UHH members will list their location as "Florida/New York" or something similar because they spend the winters in Florida and the summers in New York for some reason.
