Bad people will go after the most prevalent software first, higher chances of "getting in".
I'll bet no one is trying to get into XP boxes anymore.

I missed the free upgrade to WIN 10 because I did not, and still don't, want it.
I will get Win 10 or, 11, or 12, ... when I replace each computer.

I heard a piece of a report last week that Microsoft was sending out some kind of security update for XP! Apparently they feel guilt about leaving the still-XP users completely out in the cold!

"No longer supporting" does not mean it will stop working. It means that there will no longer be various updates and security updates. How serious this is depends on how much danger you imagine you are in. Nothing more.

Computer experts say you use "unsupported" software at your own risk. You've ALWAYS used software at your own risk. Your web activity, downloading from unknown sources, handling of email attachments etc. determine your risk.

Too bad you missed the boat on a free upgrade to Windows 10 from Microsoft. I went from 7 to 10 this way on multiple computers I own. If you have a spare hard drive, put it in the computer and install Win 10 (same version...Home or Professional) on it and see if your 7 license key works to activate 10. Find someone with the installation media. A knowledgeable user can even make you an installation disc or flash drive.

You CAN even use 10 indefinitely without activating it. Some features won't work, most notably Personalization settings, but you can get used to it before buying it. I think 10 is a fine operating system. Just disable Cortana as much as possible, and change all the default Privacy settings to keep MS and programs from snooping, and it's a very nice nice operating system. Don't be afraid of it.

I should add to my own post that I do still have two Windows 7 machines also. One that isn't up to Win 10 requirements, other one to keep my hand in 7.

My current computer came with Win 8, to me 10 is a HUGE improvement. I'm used to having more than one window open and visible and tiled on the screen. 8 was torture.

You could always tile windows. They just had to be small enough to fit on the monitor.

As of January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer be supporting Windows 7!
(Two laptops and a desktop.)
It was just a matter of when.

Windows 7 will still work just fine. You just won't get anymore security updates from Microsoft, so just be careful what you click on and make sure you are protected by a top notch Internet Security program like ESET or Kaspersky. I currently have 2 laptops running window 10, 1 laptop running windows 7, one desktop running windows 7 (gaming machine with Microsoft Flight Sim on Steam), one desktop running windows XP, and the computer I am on now which is a dual boot op system with Windows XP and Windows 7. No operating problems on any of them. Not to worry. They keep telling you that will no longer support the older operating systems to scare you into buying their new stuff.
