I enjoyed being aboard a longboat that sailed from Norway to Lake Erie at a Tall Ships Fest.

Terrific Karin, bet that as fun experience. I appreciate you taking a look and commenting.

I read the book “Kon Tiki” many, many years ago. Left me in awe. Thanks for letting me see the real thing.

Been away for a few weeks cruising off of and into the fjords and waterfalls of Norway and visiting in Denmark. Fantastic scenery, terrific people interesting museums and plenty to do. Internet is terrible, slow and often just not available. Here are some pictures of our first port of call , Oslo, Norway. The Vigeland Sculpture garden is the work on just one man and it is amazing. At the Viking Ship Museum it is hard to imagine how these hardy people went so far on such small ships on a vast ocean. The Kon Tiki museum its another head scratcher as to how someone who believed
lived up to his expectations.

Thanks for the tour 🤗🤗🤗

Great set Marsdad.

Thanks Jim, I only took 950 pictures on this trip. Still to come, fjords, waterfalls, a ride on the Flam railway etc. Promise to be very selective and not post too many.

Sounds like a wonderful trip. Nice set.

Thanks for looking and commenting, it was a terrific trip. We had previously done a lot of it on a land trip but it was an entirely different perspective from the sea. Glad you liked the.

Your post inspired a little research. The Draken Harald Hårfagre (the largest replica Viking Ship) and the Mayflower have approximately the same dimensions: 100’ length, 25’ beam. Draft 8’ and 13’ respectively, displacement 200 tons and 95 tons. Oars versus sails. Complement: 100 versus 100 passengers and 30 crew.

Thanks for the research information, good to know. Not sure it gives me great confidence to want to venture out into the North Sea or the Atlantic. Although while on active duty in the Navy I did cross from Gibraltor to Charleston, SC in a storm on an ocean going minesweeper. 176 feet long made of wood, but I had 4 big Packard engines to drive it along. Our motto,"Wooden Ships and Iron Men"

Hey Bigmike, saddle up and do it. We had talked about it for some time and are very pleased that we went. Thanks for looking in and commenting.
