Sorry, but I can't praise this guy. The OP had a chance to steal. Was tempted to steal. Fought the temptation, and then posted this thread to brag about how he resisted temptation. Resisting the temptation to commit a felony is the expectation and minimum acceptable behavior for all of us, and deserves so special praise.

I wonder if the responses would have been the same if the OP has said he was alone with his best friends wife who he finds very attractive and he thought about having relations with her and could have, but resisted the temptation even though no one else would find out about it. Would folks here be heaping as much praise on him in that scenario? Or would they be saying "What the heck were you thinking? and "Why are you bragging to us about it?"

I'm glad the OP resisted the temptation to commit a felony, but you don't praise someone for just doing what they are supposed to be doing in the first place. You heap praise when ones goes above and beyond. Have our standards fallen that low? Or is this just another modern example of getting a medal just for showing up.
