I work alone in a place late at night for my “day” job. The other night I was looking for something and came across a bunch of rolling cases. In one, nicely tucked away in their little cubby hole in the case was two Canon 5D Mark IIIs with big long zoom lenses. There is no security and no cameras in the building. And yes I was tempted, dammit. I’m sorry. I’m human. LOL But I didn’t take them ok. I also walked by three professional Sony video cameras on sturdy rolling tripods. I was salivating so bad. All I have is a Canon 5D Mark II. Don’t judge me!!
That is the difference between good and bad people.
The good ones think (and even let others know):
"I could... but I won't!"
The bad ones think (and almost never let others know):
"I did it!"
All I have is a Canon T6 (w), and I would never.
Honesty is a good feeling even if occasionally you wish you didn't have to be.
Yes, I always wondered what I was missing out on by being honest, trustworthy and "honorable".
Once when I came home on emergency leave from Nam one of my buddies asked me to take his wife to a movie and dinner. All she did was work, help her minister father around the church and watch TV. I mean my reputation was good enough a guy trusted me to take his wife out for an evening.
We saw "MASH" the movie and I had to explain why I and a bunch of the men in the audience were cracking up over some scenes that most people were just watching. Told her it was a military thing, "been there, done that".
In later years she played match maker and her father performed the marriage ceremony for my wife and I. We weren't members of his church but he was a great guy and it settled the dispute of which church to get married in that was going on with her family members. Our answer to them was "neither", Judy's Dad will marry us.
Stealing can quickly become addictive and difficult to quit. Each time, you need less and less justification to go through with it. It is best to not ever start down that road, or you will end up becoming someone you don't want to be.

I know and if you keep it up long enough the person always gets fought eventually. Not worth it.
What do they use the cameras for at your job? Maybe if they don't use them anymore, they'll offer to sell them to you at a good price.

They are a dance event promoter. They use the cameras all the time. The walls are loaded with shots of dancers. Some of the shots are really poorly done. They also do a group shot of the employees every year and post an 8x10 on the wall. They have massive amounts of those rolling black cases like you would see at a concert with roadies moving them around.

Sorry, but the fact that you were even tempted to take expensive gear that was not yours is a bit disturbing. Telling us does not make you a saint. Own it.

He is certainly not a saint! He is human! And that's OK by me!

LOL lots of people are tempted to do lots of things. Thinking about it and doing it are two different things. I’ve never stolen anything in my life. Most of the time I never even let it enter my mind. But this time was different. Not sure why.

I used to have a saying at the bottom of my email that said “A saint is just a sinner who fell and got back up”. Fits well in this situation.
If I had stolen it I would never have the pride that comes from saving up and buying something that is rightfully mine. Every time I used that stolen equipment I would have a bad feeling in my gut. Not worth it.

Canon DSLRs wouldn't have interested me. Now if they were Olympus E-M1 II cameras...different story!

LOL My first digital camera was an Olympus E-10. I really liked the 4/3 aspect ratio. It was mirrorless and had a fake click sound that could be turned on or off. It was a great camera. I was very proud of it and even shot weddings with it.
I met another photographer in an online forum who owned the same camera and I flew to Houston to meet him and learn from him and we shot a wedding together with our E-10s. It was a blast. It was a catholic wedding and there was dancing at the reception. There was this chick who had a tight dress and it kept riding up as she danced. She got drunk and didn’t care how much she revealed. My friend told me that whenever she turned our way to snap as many shots up her dress as I could. We had a blast! Later the girl walked into the men’s room while I was in there taking a piss and she just said sorry guys ladies room is backed up and I have to go. Lord what memories I had with my E-10.
