Your best bets for moose are usually not on Moosehead itself, rather smaller quite lakes off the beaten path. If you check TripAdvisor for Greenville you will find #1 guide service is Young's. I couldn't agree more. Chris Young is a registered Maine Guide (which is a big deal in Maine.) He lives and breathes the backwoods.
We wanted to see moose and we saw like 7 in one morning. But our main wish was to see loons with chicks. He helped us pick a likely date and I got some one-day old chicks riding on momma's back.

Our time with Chris Young was the highlight of our two weeks in Maine.

My son and I just returned from a Chris Young tour ( 2 separate mornings). We had some great shots of loons and a moose on the pond on the first morning. Excellent sun and great positioning by Chris with the canoe.

The second morning was overcast so we spent that time on the logging properties. He counted 14 moose that morning! That was nearly a record for him (I think he said 16 was his August max count). We witnessed some flehmen behavior by a bull near the roadside. The cow was about 15 yards away. Chris says this is early in the year for that, it is usually shown in the Sept time frame.

He is a very personable guy and very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about guiding photographers.

I also recommend him highly.

Thank you so much for your help. We ended up not going to Maine at all as our daughter was 2 weeks away from delivering our grandson! We will make it there some day.....it sounds beautiful
