Put these words

Do not relax,
It's time to apply

We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to rear the children.

National Debt in data from 1918 at the end of WW 1:
"Debt increased again during World War I (1914–1918), reaching $25.5 billion at its conclusion. Approximately $17 billion in debt was raised through the selling of Liberty Bonds to the general public to finance the U.S.'s military effort"

The year was 1971, and I had just finished photo school. Congress dropped the "luxury tax" which was on that list. At that time a 20 shot roll of Kodachrome was $2.35 and the new price was generally $1.95. I also replaced my 66 Dodge with a Chevy Vega (I know worse mistake I ever made in a car!). After I paid and took possession the price dropped a couple hundred! Unfortunately as you know this was during the Vietnam conflict where government spending had increased and then regular people now had more money to spend, and we did--resulting in the inflation a few years later. There is a theory in Economics called the "Guns and Butter", that states that a full economy can only afford one or the other unless you want inflation. We got inflation; Nixon years brought in price and wage controls-=-in my first job my boss wanted to give me a raise but regulations cut that in half--wasn't that special!

And then of course there were also the local taxes and fees. For example, how did any small town or big city pay for simple things like a policeman or any sort of infrastructure? You could live off the land then and survive, but I wouldn’t want to go back to that sort of life. Plus we haven’t touched on sharecroppers, company towns and other types of indentured servitude.
All of the progress our country has made has been paid for by its citizens one way or another. Those who rail against taxes and fees are not going to give up the conveniences of modern life.
My opinion, and I’m sticking to it.

There will be no taxation with out representation.

For all the Trekkies out there.....
We have to stick around for a few centuries. There is no tax on board the USS Enterprise-D. And tribbles are free!

Inflation is always caused by overspending by the Federal government. For years, social program spending, starting with "The Great Society" legislation, has taken a bigger and bigger cut of the Federal budget. Congress was/is loath to cut into these programs, lest they will lose their seats the next time around.

Nixon's wage and price controls were unconstitutional on their faces, especially in a free-market economy. I doubt they'd have survived a real court challenge. Nixon, just before he imposed them was adamantly opposed to any controls of the type he put into place. Milton Friedman, among other economists, had warned Nixon not to do this. This is the same wrongheadedness which helped cause the Great Depression. Hoover signed the Smoot Hawley Tariff Act, despite advice to the contrary.

In Nixon'is folly, he helped create gas lines, food shortages (farmers drowned chickens), etc., It took years to undo the damages he wrought.

This list seems to be a wonderful ploy to enlist more enthusiasts for eliminating all taxes -- which is surely what most of the 1% (ultra rich) want. They have the money to spend for what ever they want --and the heck with everyone else.
