The 500 PF (prime) is very easy to handhold and also works with a 1.4 extender. The D850 buffer should hold at least 29 frames at full resolution.

Remember there is a learning curve with every new item. I have found time and again that the initial expectation is high and the skills need adaptation to the device. Every time I have thought, "What have I done buying this thing?" I have later found that the problem was in the cockpit, not the hardware. Don't get frustrated. Even if you are Nikon accustomed and very experienced in camera handling, you will later find you DO GET what you expected as soon as you, the camera and lens are all working as a single entity.

A 50 MPH vertical dive takes practice and a great camera and lens and lighting and wind and and ….that's why they're none on here and I can only find one photographer that has the complete dive: Mark Smith on youtube
It's difficult to do but can be done. I've got a few with a 500mm prime and tripod. Those guys that I see that have the most skill use a video tripod and video fluid head. Mine is a carbon fiber Gitzo with a gimbal type of head. I only know a hand full of guys that can do it. One of them does it handheld and he gets excellent results. He's the best I've ever seen. If I had a picture of this lake with all the photographers on the edge with tripods and top of the line cameras you'ld really know that I'm not BS'g you. Oh, and I don't have a 1DX or 1DX Mk II. Those guys that are good have either that body or the Nikon D4 or D5 bodies. They shoot a lot of fps, my old 1D Mark IV and 7D II do 10 fps, but my old 7D only did 8fps.
