Stupid things you've done while using your camera.

I was sitting at the beach during a vacation taking shots of a beautiful sunset, a young lady opened a blanket between my camera and the sun. I was not upset but as seen her turning her face to her side the sun created a glow framing her head. I have played with images around the sun but I have never have seen a more beautiful composition. It’s hard to describe how beautiful the sun light and the shadow of her face was facing me. That vision of her face and the sun behind her head has stock in my mind, plus the inability to make the decision to take that shot, not want her to make her uncomfortable.

That feeling when -

You have researched carefully to try something new (using HSS, with speed lights to achieve a low key background) - watched you tube to death, read all the blogs on the subject, feeling confident ... I can do this ...

Set up the whole session, with a model, set shutter to 1/8000 and EVF and rear display on the mirrorless of course both go black as night - ahhhh, there was something in that stuff I researched about overcoming that problem.... but what was it exactly?

Search web history, cannot find reference, search on line manuals of camera and speed lights, cannot find setting needed

In desperation, post request for help on a web site (like this one, but camera specific).

Reply posted in under 2 minutes, just saying "Manual, page 271"; they were kind enough not to use the acronym RTFM.

Resume session, trying to look like I have everything under control ...
That feeling when - br br You have researched car... (show quote)

Now that's the kind of straightforward advice we look for. Not complete with edification

Walking up out of a big gully in TX, my tennis shoes slipped on gravel that was in and around rocks. Had my D700 and 70-200mm on it and they were pretty new at the time. I fell hard on my behind and got scraped and bruised up. I held that camera up so nothing hurt it. I ended up with a herniated disc..... I still get shots for! I did herniate a 2nd one working as RN. 3rd going over on bike. I think I’m calmer now. 😁

I think I, too, would protect my gear and take the fall. Hope you're treatments bring great relief.

Before I flew from Dallas, TX to Portland, OR I plugged in my charger to make sure I had a full battery on my new Canon. Got to Portland and realized that my battery was still at home. I had to buy a new battery AND a new charger. Oh well, I needed a spare anyway.

This has been one of my weaknesses, too--becoming so involved emotionally in what was going on that I neglected to take pictures, and feeling REALLY stupid afterward!

Upon further reflection, my single most embarrassing failure of all time was "shooting" my sister's entire wedding event without film in the camera! No one else in the family (and certainly not my DEAR sister) has held that over my head, but I don't think I will ever get over it!

Years ago, I encountered an elderly lady at a tourist spot outside San Antonio, looking puzzled, while fiddling with a small camera. I struck up conversation, asking if she was experiencing a prob. Her reply was something along the lines of, “I have been shooting all day, and still haven’t run out of film.” Suspecting she had not threaded the film onto the take-up spool, I asked if I could take the camera to the men’s room and do a quick exam. Sure enough, into the john I go, turn out the lights, film not threaded. I quickly corrected the issue, returned the camera to the nice lady, and sadly explained the prob. She was somewhat embarassed, but grateful that I had solved her prob. Sadly, she had no photos to share of her visit.

That one would linger with me as well.

Through much trial and error, and some very scientific calculation, I've come to realize that I just don't need a camera to do something DUMB! Best of luck.
