The stupidest thing I've ever done is walk around an overlook on the Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire, looking through the view finder to frame the perfect fall foliage shot.
If an alert bystander hadn't shouted at me, I probably would have gone over the precipice and wouldn't be writing this today.

My largest mistake/mishap was the time I help a woman from Georgia, while I was in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia
I was through shooting Ospreys for the day when a lady approached me and requested help with her focus issue. I opened my tripod legs and then set my equipment on the ground. I turned my back, took one step and then it happened. My tripod fell over and my D7100 and Nikkor 200-400mm f/4.0 became two pieces when they clashed with a large boulder. The camera was toast but the lens was fine.
Sometimes, it just doesn't pay to help someone. B^)

Grabbed the full frame camera and 18-300 lens for a shoot at an auto junk yard. Figured that lens would cover everything so I only brought that lens. Well the lens I grabbed was for my crop sensor camera. DUH!! At least all wasn't lost I had some nice vignetted photos.
