Hello. I have an old 23" Monitor that I can't even calibrate with SpyderLite5Elite. So I'm looking to buy a 27" monitor, and was hoping someone with experience with Dell monitors, and I guess monitors in general, could help. It's been many years since I've bought a monitor.

The two monitors I'm looking at are the Dell UltraSharp 27 4K Monitor: U2718Q, and the Dell UltraSharp 27 Monitor with Premier Color - UP2716D. They're both $399. Just don't know which one would be better for post processing images? The U2718Q has a native resolution of 4K 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz, and the UP2716D has a native resolution of QHD 2560 x 1440 at 60 Hz. Should I be focusing on one with the higher resolution? I just don't know what's more important, etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I've had a Dell monitor for years with no trouble. I would go for the one with the higher resolution.

In regard to Dell. I purchased a brand new custom ordered Dell computer laptop for almost $1,900. It did not work. After many phone conversations with various representatives, they finally replaced it with another laptop. I will never purchase another Dell product. Good luck with your purchase.

I'm using a Dell P2715Q 27" Ultra HD 4K Monitor and am very happy with it although older programs such as Photoshop CS6 are barely useable at 4K...everything is tiny unless you lower the resolution.

I have been happily using the Dell P2715Q for years and have been happy with its performance and quality for most of them. The early problems have been failures of applications not keeping up with the movement to higher resolution, not monitor problems. I was persistent with my complaints to my software providers for over two years and most did finally see that the problems were their's and took steps to upgrade their products. I have replaced the software from those who chose not to upgrade. The problems above may be solved with later versions of Photoshop but, since I do not use it, I don't know.

I've run a computer business since 2003. IMHO, there is very little difference between brands of monitors. I'm using a Dell SE2717HR-2 next to an LG Ultra HD 27". I see one problem though. While 4K seems like a good idea, when setting the display for 3840x2160 everything windows is displayed too small to be practical. So if you want to use the same computer for Ugly Hedgehog, or actually read the menu choices in Photoshop, 4K might drive you nuts. If you set a 4K computer for 1920x1080, you won't get the picture quality that a monitor designed for 1920x1080 will give you. I recommend that you go with the Dell, but get the monitor I'm using - It's just plain fantastic and it's cheaper than a 4K monitor.

You may run a computer business but it sounds like you actually don't know much about how to configure computers/monitors

And is the replacement working satisfactorily?

Yes, it has performed well until 2 weeks ago when the battery would no longer charge. Almost $200. later, it is now working again. Dealing with Dell on the correct part to order was a nightmare. One customer service rep said it was part ABC ; tried to order it and another rep said no it's part XYZ ... luckily the part they sent does work. So frustrating.

Since 1998, I have used nothing but Dell products. Currently the computer I have is 4 years old, and have 3 27" monitors. In the over 20 years, I have had one issue, Dell sent a tech out, fixed the problem. I switched the business I was working for over to all Dell products, that was in 2001, they are all still going strong. Any computer or monitor can have a problem, nothing is 100% fool proof. If Ford's were so bad, everyone would be driving a Chev. And the comment about a hospital changing, and the comment made, lower bid, may very well be correct.

So you got a defective product and it was replaced (not repaired, replaced), which worked properly until the battery died. And instead of simply removing the battery (trivial matter - just slides off after unlocking), writing down the type number (which is clearly visible on the label) and ordering a new one (from, Dell, Amazon, etc) by the type number, you had an unsatisfactory experience with support, and you’re never buying another product from them. And it’s not clear whether the battery is actually bad or the charger died. Hard to see what Dell did wrong here.

I have 4 Dell laptops and 5 Dell monitors in my house - several probably 10 years old and just won’t die. I have had maybe a dozen Dell laptops for work and have literally seen many thousands of Dell servers in service in data centers and never heard a customer bad mouth Dell that I can remember. In fact, this site may be running on Dell servers and storage as they dominate the world’s server and storage market (Dell now owns EMC).

So you had a good experience with Dell ...good for you. My one and only experience was bad therefore I will never buy another Dell product. End of discussion.

Did you get a new monitor? I too was looking at the same models at the time you posted this. I tested them at the Dallas Minrocenter store and the DELL U2718Q beat them all. This week I broke down and bought the monitor and I am glad I did. My photos are incredibly sharp. I wish I had not waited so long to buy this monitor. Yes, there are others out there, BENQ is a known good brand but they did not have one. DELL is a good product, I hope this worked out for you.
Bruce.
