Thanks cucharared, for the comment. I went back yesterday and measured the gate, it's 49 inches. The dog is about 25 inches at the shoulder and 3 feet from the gate and about a foot lower. I am guessing about 18-24 inches from the top of the gate to the top of the picture.

For some reason, the dog looks like it is a cardboard cutout of a dog. I think it has to do with the lighting. The flowers seem to have depth and the dog does not. Do you have another dog photo or put this one in a simpler background. If you go for a different background place the dog in the middle; have something in front of the dog as well as behind him; it may help with the "Depth" that is lacking in the dog image. BTW, you did fine. There is really nothing in the picture to lend scale to the dog; we never saw your dog so whatever the image is, is correct. How could we know otherwise?

I would ask why you tried to size the other subjects relative to the dog instead of sizing the dog to the surroundings?

Thanks Howard for the comments. First you are right about the dog cutout. I was in a hurry and usually do much better. Scale is always a problem in composites. I used the dog because other than the snake (5'6") he was the only thing I knew the size of and he is sized to the surroundings (the gate).
