"Barn Owl, Hurry and buy that camera, Prez T is jacking your price up by 25% to pay off the 1%." Stupid statement.

BarnOwl, I stand behind my statement regarding the degree of urgency purchasing camera /Photography related items.

Traderjohn, perhaps you are over reacting at my informative statement. If you say I am wrong, then prove it and simply say that I am wrong. Using the word Stupid suggest, implies, that I am stupid and make a stupid statement... occasionally yes, generally no.

Traderjohn, you will find the word camera and photography related in the following list of items that will be hit with Trumps Tax?

TRUMP TARIFF AFFECTED ITEMS
8523.52.00 . Semiconductor media, “smart cards” and 8523.59.00 . Semiconductor media. This will include Micro SD cards and other storage.
8525.80.50 . Television cameras, digital cameras and video camera recorders. This likely includes 360 cameras.
9620.00.10 to 9620.00.70 . Monopods, bipods, tripods and other similar articles (whether aluminum, carbon, plastic, steel or anything else).

To add insult to injury, China controls the Rare Earth Metal market [36%] metals needed for electronics including they plan to restrict sales to USA !! USA generates only 1% of the world market and so the loss of Rare Earth metals or the significant increas in pices will hurt all UHH members. Ouch

I am over 65, well over, and I am GLAD I purchased the Nikon D850 and D5 and D500. Cause I really don't care about other's opinion. I only care about what works best for me. Besides, my wife knows where the boxes are, knows how to use ebay, and knows the current value of my equipment. So, I die happy, twice.

Good for you, but I just can't afford 10 grand for new cameras.

What and how does your hatred of the top 1% benefit from this tariff. Tariff and cameras I could care less.https://howmuch.net/articles/high-income-americans-pay-majority-of-federal-taxes

I can see arguments both ways-to keep what you have and work with it until you absolutely "outgrow" it or get a new camera with the features you believe you need to accomplish what you want to do.
Having said that, I do agree with camerapapi that if you are not getting the images you want now, it may not be the camera...maybe work on skills such as composition and light, etc. before buying an expensive bookend.

I take the opposite point of view. If you want it, buy it. You can either keep or sell what you already have. "Making do" and regretting how you are living doesn't make sense to me.

I don't like his "...what you need" comment. Very few people need any camera at all. I've had cameras all my life - just for fun.

Jerry, exactly!

This is not the place for your argument to my original statement and I should not have replied to you except to make people aware that photo equipment will be hit with the tariff. Please, if you wish to vent to me the make it a PM. Your argument has no place in this thread.

No, no hate of 1% involved. The budget shortfall resulting from the corporate and high income will be propped up by the tariff income. This is not the place for such discussion. I simply warned that the price of cameras and related supplies will be significantly increased. You said "Tariff and cameras I could care less." but UHH is about photography and those who buy equipment do care.

I was making an informational warning of pending price increases... again not doing a negative rather a good deed... tho the response to the information proves... no good deed shall go unpunished. Sorry if the information was disturbing or incorrect.

Why not? You can take the great picture at home.
Really, this is the nit-pick you choose today? Okay, I will play along...

As the statement says SITTING at home it implies even in your house it is still sitting on a shelf somewhere. It is like you will also never make a great cake if the ingredients stay (sit) in the cabinet and frig.

My age, 68, has nothing to do with what I buy for my use and enjoyment. I have no idea how long I will live and give no thought to it when I make such purchases. What a horribly depressing way to look at your life.

Amen to that. Use the camera that makes you happy and that meets your needs.

Maakten Heilbron has a newly posted video on YouTube: "STOP! Don't buy a new camera." Any UHH over 65 may find it interesting.

That's the only way I buy, when buying cameras, I only buy new (and I will never stop doing that)!

At 74, I've purchased two new cameras this year. Gone are my lenses and bodies. I've crossed the "Bridge" and am happy to be on the other side. 'Bridge' get it?

I will soon be 89 and within the last two years I purchased a Canon 5D IV, a 70-200 mm f/2.8 L II, and a 50 mm f/1.4. If I decide that I need another lens or maybe a replacement for my G15 when it gives up the gohst, then I will replace it. Don't let age be a negative thing.
