I recently posted about a wedding I was asked to photograph that, against my better judgment, I agreed to do; I shared concerns about several areas and have received many responses. Thank you for all of them. I appreciate your advice and insight. The day was very good and the photos were successful. I was able to connect with the wedding party and we had a great time in photographs, fellowship, and getting things done. However, I have decided to not venture into such murky waters again. And I thank all who contributed counsel about this situation.

Very glad to hear the outcome. You did what you could and things worked out in the end. That's all anyone can ask...

A pro friend of mine does not shoot weddings for 2 reasons: 1. The Bride 2. The Bride's mother.

Glad it went well - that said, it is a good learning experience, don't close the door totally!

You have gained great wisdom and additional skill, and I bet you are a better photographer for it. Good job!

I quit doing them for those two reasons, and the overall stress, in the days of film. A poloroid preview shot would give me some confidence, but till I got my film from the lab, I was a nervous wreck (even though my film "keper" rate was very good, anxiety reined). Went into legal photography, was much more interesting, much less stressful, and more lucrative (for the effort involved) for me. My hat is off to any full time wedding photographer!!

I have been offered weddings. My response if I dont have the equipment to shoot a wedding.
I don't know how. The whole process which I used to sit in as guest at a friends studio. He does weddings.
The initial consultation. The planning. The purchase of a book or whatever prints they want pre planned
contracts. The attitude of the couple of what they want. The complaints about cost. And the nerves
that go on in a wedding. My own daughter at her 2nd marriage in anisland in the carribean had
no photographer. I didnt bring equipment but had a small Sony with me. I shot a few shots before
and then what I could at party. Her comment was Dad this was not your best work. I said to her
I was in the wedding party. I gave you away on the beach. Really!!

Glad it turned out so well. After doing a wedding, it's such a relief to discover that you have a good set of photos.

In the film days and after I graduated from photography school I engaged in the wedding photography business. I trained with two different photographers and one of them had Monte Zucker as his teacher. It is distressing photography to me and I agree that to cope with people is not precisely an easy task.

I join the others in congratulating you for your good work and if the couple is happy with the images you made that is what is important.

Well said and I agree. We sometimes are compelled to do things that are less than wise and hope we get lucky along the way. I too had a couple of episodes with both good & not good results over a 30 year span and the only thing that saved me were the better types of camera gear that I gathered over decades in between the two events.

I only shoot as a Back-Up Guy now and refuse to take the lead on anything as important as this type of shooting. I wish I had found this website much sooner, rather than at the end of life....hahha

Better late then NEVER...right?

Any wedding photo shoot can be called a success when...

1. No camera gear gets damaged or fails for mysterious reasons.

2. No one has a stroke.

3. There's no lawsuit.
