I connected the Sony card reader to the lightning to USB 3 Adapter and had the power cord also connected to the adapter and a message came up “cannot use device” “connected device requires too much power “. The device is a QXD 120 GB card.
What's your Sony card reader model number. I don't have the correct USB adapter to connect my XQD reader to my iPad/lightning. However, when connecting my XQD card readers to my Kingston MobileLight, the MobileLite recognizes and works with the QDA-SB1 model but not the MRW-E80 XQD reader. Perhaps, that's because the MRW-E80 needs more power than the QDA-SB1. Another cause, which I can't test, could be that the iPad Pro can supply more power than the iPad/Lightning to the reader. I am testing with a 120GB XQD card.
The model number is QDA-SB1
I’ve ordered a USB-Lightning adapter which will arrive in a few days. I’ll see if I can import into my lightning iPad. Will be back.
I successfully imported RAW-NEF photos from my Nikon D850 into my iPad with a Lightning connector. Hopefully importing from the Z7 is similar.
I used this USB Camera Adapter from Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HK6HNR1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1At first, it did not work. I changed the Nikon to save as JPEGs. Import then worked. Reverted back to RAW only and importing continued to work. I imported NEF files directly from the camera and also via a Sony QDA-SB1 XQD card reader.
When the camera was connected directly to the adapter, no external power was needed. I had to externally power the adapter when importing with the XQD card reader. (Because the adapter's jacks were close, I also had to use a USB extension cable.)
After importing, I wondered if the RAW or JPEG was actually imported. To test, I used AirDrop to send the imported photo files from the iPad to my Mac. The Mac got the actual RAW-NEF files with file sizes from 49 -> 53MB.
