Good point Bob.

I am just not a fan of SD cards either... small size might be easier for me to lose😎.

I just lost one yesterday. Fortunately, it was empty.

I would fear a card holding so much original material.
I can get a whole video job on one 64 quality card. 4K would probably be the use for
this card. It is a bit crazy.

I agree, 64 Gb is the largest SD card I have, and the largest I would ever want. Only got that one because the camera store recommended it for the camera I bought. Normally the largest I get is 32 GB.

I agree with NOT needing one. Putting all your eggs in one basket.... I would much rather have 3 or 4 smaller cards and swap them often. If one goes bad (I have had that happen), then the number of shots that I have lost is reduced.

A photographer once told me that he will not buy a large capacity disc because it is so much easier to switch out your disk, depending on what you are shooting, than it is to go thru hundreds of photos just to find one of the subject that he wants. I took his advice and have different discs for different subjects. Some for flowers and others for waterfalls etc. Pretty much a personal preference for me.

So if you have 50 subjects you have 50 cards?

But no matter how absent minded you get, you'll never put your external hard drive through the washing machine.

I think it would be more efficient to search in Lightroom...

What if an image falls into several subjects or categories...

I have 18 memory cards. I use them and copy the photographs to an external hard drive. I never format the cards or reuse them. I store all the cards in a case that holds several cards. Each card is numbered and dated. I don't feel comfortable with a memory card larger than 64 GB.

How many total images do you have...

Can't imagine 50 subjects. Landscape=1, birds=2 waterfalls=3 , mamals=4 etc. I guess it depends how you categorized your subjects.

IIn 1985-86 I bought a new 20 MB, yes Megabyte, hard drive for my XT Computer for $320 and got a steal. (Equivalent to over $700 in today's dollars). It DOUBLED my storage with the 20 Mb already in it!

Yeah me too; kept the receipt for the next one- a ST225 for $225.
I cheated- I bought a RLL controller to make it a 30.
The 8087 also made a big difference.

Is there a specific reason you never format and reuse your memory cards?

That's why I file by location.

I can just imagine hiking, shooting a lake, turning around, seeing flowers,
wait, I have to change cards.........
