Broadgauge Impression

In the station, Fire Fly idles while a few passengers disembark. Out on the track Brunel, the mastermind behind the Great Western Railway and advocate of broad gauge, chats to the engine crew of Iron Duke and seems fairly pleased with himself.
The main picture is two images from the same file. Using artist's licence I've brought the station closer to the viewer, hopefully creating a more interesting composition. I noticed this technique in a Turner painting of Lyme Regis from Eype beach in Dorset UK - when I tried to photograph the scene! If the method is good enough for The Master....
The picture includes a few minor additions such as the folk on the platform, and several layers where I simply painted and blended or cloned and blended to achieve colour and effect. Finally an Impressions filter and a Border from Topaz with selective blending and masking.
I seem to be going through a period of enjoying this sort of thing more than straight photography, or perhaps I'm going there permanently!!

A very enjoyable series you've created, Dave! Are you going to have enough wall space to display these all together?

Just the odd one Linda - you can have too much of a good thing y’know!
I’m sort of heading toward a particular composite that I have in mind. I’ll post it if successful but don’t have all the elements as yet.

Hi Dave. I like it. I thought the gate helped to joins the two parts of the picture together. The two distant figures are a master stroke, very subtle. I also note the texture looks like a rough water colour paper so will look fantastic as a larger version. I think Turner would have been impressed.

Beautiful work. I wonder if incorporating the way steam dissipates over distance might fit into your impression. I used the Burn tool @10 with a soft brush down the side of the boiler, plus some touches elsewhere.
