I find it easier to get the light the color I desire with the a gel that to mess with it in post. And no I had no white balance issues.
If I recall I was using a D300 in manual except for auto focus and auto w/b, I did make an adjustment to the red spectrum in the camera menu due to having issues when photographing Light to dark brown skins ( having too much red) using strobes when there was a lot of red in the image.
