Full frame Canon cameras will be mirrorless so fast, only the sleepy crowd on UHH will continue to pass along the sage advice to not buy EF-S lenses 'in case you might go full-frame in the future ....' The point about EF-S lenses being limited to crop sensor bodies is no longer valid. EF and EF-S lenses are fully operational on an EOS-R body via Canon's Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, not kinda, not mostly. There is no need to be concerned about the long-term usefulness of EF-S lenses, particularly given the benefit they provide on the wide angle of the zoom range, at 18mm or wider.

I've actually mention that twice in this conversation. Thank you for agreeing with me.
And, not just full frame MILC'S. I use EF-S lenses on my Canon M50 all the time.
Welcome to UHH Clark. I am a Nikon user, so I can't help with your question. There are many Canon users on the forum who can though. Good luck.

I have a bit of concern about the EOS-M line, but the point is valid: EF-S lenses are not limited to just one type of EOS body. Apologies for missing and simply concurring with your earlier comment.

What's your concern about the EOS M line? I only own one but I've never had a problem with it. I never bought any EF-M lenses though. I figured, why buy M specific lenses when all my EF and EF-S lenses will work, with an adapter. It's kind of like having a G1X III and being able to change lenses, and I have a G1X III.

I have a Canon EOS 80D and am considering either an 18-135 IS or 24-105 IS. Kind of an all around use lens. I have a 55 1.4 now but would like some comparison information about these two lenses. Yes, there is considerable cost difference, and I guess I'm wondering if it's worth the extra money. Also, I see some of the major on line sellers offering used lenses. Anyone have any input on making these purchases?
Thanks
Welcome to the forum. I bought my 80D 2 1/2 years ago with the EF-S 18-135 and it is an excellent lens that is on my camera most of the time. The 18mm end is wide enough for most uses and the long end has adequate reach for general use; it's my normal walking around lens. I've also got an EF-S 10-18 for those really wide shots. Additionally, I've got an EF 70-300 for the long shots; I use it primarily at the sports car races.
