My thoughts are at our age (I am 76) if you want it and can afford it than buy it. I just bought a Nikon D7500 and love it. It currently sells for $800. Comparing the specs of the Olympus and Nikon they are almost the same, the Nikon is 1/2 inch taller and 2 oz heavier not a significant difference. A large part of my enjoyment of photography is the emotional attachment for a camera. It can take superb pictures but if I don't like they way it feels and is laid out I don't want it.

They are extensive. However, for most of what you actually use on a camera (aperture, shutter speed, iso, focus control, WB, etc) you never need to go beyond the dials and buttons on the body. When I need to do something that is not covered there, and not accessible on the super control panel, I Google it. Lots of people with time on their hands have figured out a lot of stuff I don't even think of trying!

Way to go and make me feel dumb! It never occurred to me to use Google to get to deeper menu items. The majority of control is already at one's hands with the controls and Super Screen. And now you point out that I really don't to take all the manuals with me, just my phone and Google?!? Thanks for make me red faced again - or is it "still"?

Some would say weight is a dumb reason not to go for the best setup you can afford, but if that’s what causes you to not want to take it everywhere, then your money is wasted.[/quote]

Words of a younger man.

Thank you for all the opinions. I am aware of the Olympus menu system, which in my opinion is absurdness. I am fortunate to have a large camera store in Topeka. I want to keep them open and do not avoid paying takes. I want to keep them open. They let you handle cameras and can offer help. We are very lucky. I will buy it.

Thanks to everyone,

Terry

Terry, if you meant E-M1mkII rather than E-M10 mkII, you will find that once you are more familiar with its setup, it is the second best most controlling camera one can buy. It is only surpassed by the new Olympus E-M1X in total ability of controling an image. Just have patience learning the menus and you will be greatly rewarded with some of the best exposed images you have ever taken. Have fun with your new camera and enjoy the view from the viewfinder.

If it feels comfortable in your hands, buttons and dials are all in the right place it sounds like a
winner to me!

Well Mr Sandlin I am 3 weeks short of being 89 and I went from a Canon 6D to an Olympus omd1 mk2 because I got tired of hauling around a FF camera with it's associated heavy lenses. I am really happy with the change. I have not used the 6D since. Last year we went to Spain/Portugal for 24 days and I took the Olympus with me wherever we went. That would not have happened with the Canon. The Olympus difference is in the lenses which are much more compact. Between Olympus and Panasonic there are a plethora of mft lenses. I am thoroughly enjoying the mk2.

I bought one last June when my wife and I decided to drive cross country to the Pacific Coast. I was very disappointed to find the the 14-42 mm stock lens didn't allow me to compose properly without me being quite far from my subject. I wound up taking most of my pictures with my Nikon D3 - Very heavy to carry especially when hiking. I determined to sell it as soon as I returned. When I brought it into my local camera shop the salesgirl couldn't understand why I didn't like the camera. I explained the lens problem. She looked at the menus on the back of the camera, pushed a button and the problem disappeared. It seems the former owner (I bought it used), had set the digital telephoto button and the camera was dutifully doing what it was supposed to do. I did not receive a users manual and being a 50 year veteran photographer I thought I didn't need one. This was me breaking my cardinal rule when getting new equipment. I have preached it to all of my employees, children and most of all , my wife, "Always read the directions", (instructions). Very embarassed especially in front of the twenty something sales girl.

The 0MDEM-10 MkII is one of the most like bodies. Most shooter prefer it over the MkIII. Other positives are its size, cost and IQ. The only negative is that it is not weather proof. I have used my EM 10-ii and Pen F in showers and light rain. I just purchased a nearly new OMD EM-1 for weather proofing and use on 4/3 lens.

For what it's worth I have had a camera in my hands since I was maybe 14 yrs old or so. I am currently 92 yrs and my all time favorite is the Olympus M1 MII. The Olympus system is fantastic. I have or was a Nikon shooter and Canon shooter for most of my photography shutter clicking years. Go for it you'll love it.
