Hey leave him alone.

With all that stuff he's probably the only guy on earth that still makes house calls!

Well said! How come no one discusses CyberLink Photo Director 10?

I remember years ago when the rumor was Apple was going to buy Adobe... But I believe they just developed their own pdf engine and photo apps instead...

Perhaps one More reason why I will never subscribe for monthly subscription if I can avoid. Note, I did say why I wont. Just a personal statement and not to suggest anything to anyone here.
The less of Automatic credit card use per month, the better. Those monthly charges can really mess up with your interest balance when you think everything is paid off in full.

Just pay it with a debit card...that’s what I do...

In defense of those of us who haven't gone on rants and changed, I tried to consider options, I tried Capture 1 and Affinity, and I quickly learned that I would have to go through the same extended painful learning period that I did with PS, for little or no gain. So, I'm still happy with PS and Bridge. Not as happy with Adobe's constant moving of the cheese in updates, but it's one of those things that is the unfixable lack of ergonomic concerns and general out of touchness of software engineers, so grit your teeth and go on.

The first self-contained digital camera was developed in 1975.

digital cameras weren't around in the '70s so there would have been nothing for Photoshop to work on.

Wikipedia states that the first release of Photoshop was in 1990 and GIMP was first released in 1996.

In my advanced age I get a lot of dates mixed up. That's one reason I don't organize my photos by year.

I do recall making colored maps of data in the late '70s on an Apple II but they were not photographically generated and we had to write our own software if we wanted to modify them.

Well, I've got to check out of this getting-more-ridiculous-by-the-minute thread...too many of you are too willfully stubborn or else stupid to understand the real reason for Adobe's (and other software companies) moving to subscription based revenues.

You paid for the license to use PS4 and still run it? Great, more power to you, but when Microsoft or Apple moves to a version of thier OS that does not support your product and the system you have is too old to maintain, you will be forced into doing something. Do what you want, but my hope is to give you a cursory understanding of what is going on.

So what is this argument: Throw out what works and is paid for today for a problem that might / might not arrive in the future? Is that more or less logical than avoiding the subscription model on the principle of the thing?

I still swear by Affinity Photo! A one time $50 and it is as good or better than PS! If you don’t believe me, download the FREE trial. It’s awesome! 👍

I don't.

I bought MS Office pro 2010 and it's still doing everything I need - Word, Excel and Access. I may never need to upgrade it but if I ever do I will purchase it outright (it's not expensive) or find another product that does the same things.

I upgrade Capture One Pro every two years and it ends up costing much less than the Adobe subscription. But I could stop upgrading and keep using it for the rest of my life.

The point is that both products are mature - nothing I will ever need (my needs are simple) is getting added to them.

AHA! You are the holdout! Vee vill find you now!

All kidding aside, it's one reason why the "home" and "home office" versions of MS Office are popular. You don't need the enterprise version, and it's why I went to it. My need for linked spreadsheets, rotating columns, etc., has gone away. Likewise, I don't have to prepare 50-slide presentations. I have the "light" versions of these products.

However, I did go the subscription route. @ just over $100 per year, it's all right with me.

I also use Affinity, and it's flexible, powerful, and it fits my needs perfectly.

Do like I did and just buy some Adobe stock, and you'll have the best of both worlds.
