I'm naive to your reference Richard. Please point me to the relevance. A link will be appreciated.

This is your quote, Haydon:

"Canon has always been conservative with their marketing tier. Cannibalizing models has been a sin for them so when a feature is removed, it's often felt exponentially."

I was simply pointing out, Canon has already "cannibalized" TWO DSLRs - dropping features already incorporated into previous models - the 50D was considered much more a PRO camera, than the 60D which followed. (Although, I bought it, not having had the 50D, and I really don't miss what I never had.) But, when I bought the T4i, I was most disappointed to find Canon had dropped the Auto Depth of the T3.

My point was they refuse to cannibalize upper level bodies by excluding features into lower bodies which usually amounts to a fewer set of features in models overall. My original post was meant as a representation becoming more propriety and minimizing bleed into third party AKA center pin hotshoe mount. I may not have described it well enough and you misread my words as a result.

Sony on the other hand is far more generous with including features. Lately they like to deal with a Steve Jobs approach. "Cannibalize your product or someone else will." It's working for them.

Not a "internet" reference.
Just working with other shooters.
The "upgrade" from the Canon 50D (I owned a Canon 40D) was either a Canon 7D for the hobbyst sports shooters (for thse who didn'town 1D bodies) or a 6D (or even the 5Dxx series) for the 'scapers.
The 60D was regarded as a replacement for a failing 30D or 40D models, I went for a 70D when my 40D started showing signs of failing after very heavy use.

Thanks Richard for the history and other opinions. Appreciated. I was stuck with that 1D syndrome. I wanted more than a 7D and paid dearly for the 1DIV back in 2012.
