I have one question...why in the world would anyone want a grip for a D850?

Using the en el-18 battery gives a little speed boost. I already had one from a D4s, otherwise it is an expensive option.

I agree only buying Nikon accessories for Nikon cameras, your always taking a chance with a off brand. I have one question...why in the world would anyone want a grip for a D850?

I find that the grip helps me with portrait orientation. It also allows me to use the same battery for all my cameras and boots frames-per-second. Best of luck.

Drastically improved handling. Better Portrait Mode controls & handling. Better handling when a long or heavy lens is attached. Second battery available.

Try one.
The original grip is long enough for all three fingers, how longer a grip does a photographer really need?

My hands must be a little larger. While the D810 is a hefty camera, it stops just a little earlier than I would like for best comfort.

I have the Nikon battery grip on my D500 and love it but hate the price. I'm considering the Vello grip for my D850 but want the same Nikon quality; any suggestions?

-----I have two Nikons and two Vello's and I find no difference, other than price. I believe the quality to be comparable.

I generally wait until the holidays when Nikon throw's in a free battery grip with a body purchase. I can afford to wait. I get good results from my older equipment so I can easily wait.

Interesting comparison. Insurance companies quote non-OEM parts to try to save a few bucks, not because they are equivalent.

My wife was hit from behind in her car a couple of years ago. Insurance required the dealer to install a 3rd party bumper. When it finally arrived after a longer wait than necessary, it would not fit. Mounting pads and holes were all in the wrong places. And yes, it was the "correct" bumper. After an additional wait of a couple of days for a genuine part, her car was finally repaired and back on the road. The insurance company ended up having to pay for both bumpers.
Interesting comparison. Insurance companies quote ... (show quote)

Even worse when they fit and you think everything is fine and a year later the chrome is already peeling and showing rust, or first time it rains your lights have puddles of water inside.

I still have a vello that's a paperweight. Not because the AA battery adapter never worked, but they're not identical so the custom L bracket doesn't fit. Got a like new nikon grip, and it fits. Better shape, texture just better.
