I do appreciate your comments - thanks.
When setting up to take the images I deliberately placed Lincoln as I did. I wanted everything to lead to Lincoln and I thought the ceiling detracted. Yes, the base is well lit, but to my eye that just drew my eye to Lincoln.

Thank you for explaining. One other thought. I now shoot all my panoramas vertically in case I change my mind later about the cropping. Your crop emphasizes Lincoln's awesomeness. Very calm but with such weight on his shoulders. And no distractions of people wandering across the frame.

I have always shot panoramas vertically - you can always crop to reduce the width of the horizontal shot but you can't crop to add height. And, more often than not, height adds a lot.
I was extremely fortunate that the few other early morning visitors saw what I was doing and stayed out of my way.

Well done, change noting. For me a put off for panoramic shots is when I can see distortion. The columns are straight, the lighting captured very well, what's not to like?
