a friend just left Kanab and said that Mary and Joseph would have a hard time finding a room.. Could be that he is Jewish.

Certainly nothing visual or worth going out of your way to photograph.

It's the population that is of interest.

And I'd bet photographing them for what they're known for isn't allowed.

Toadstools is about 40 miles east of Kanab toward Page. It is about 1/4 mile walk from the highway. It has some great hoodoos and color. Old Paria town site, movie site and pioneer cemetery is short drive off highway 89 close to the Toadstools. BLM has visitors centers both in Kanab and Big Water. Lots of info at them. Just a few miles east of Kanab is Johnson's Canyon. Grosvenor Arch is also worth a side trip. Kanab sits in a photo rich area with a lot of history \.

All fine suggestions --Toadstools in particular-- but the old Paria movie site maybe not so much. What was left of it burned down (arson suspected) in 2006. The accompanying (rather poor) scanned film shot is from the late '80's. But the road up there off Hwy 89 is easy, and the territory is outstanding.

Yes, and they value their rooms very highly. Actually we were going to move up to Escalante for two days, and couldn't get anything there so decided to make longer day trips to stay in one place. We have a dog which complicates things, and LaQuinta is our goto brand being very dog friendly with no uncharge or restrictions about size.

Thanks for that tip. We found a house in Kanab for the 4 days at $200 less than the motel, even after all fees.
