Jerry,

I faced the same dilemma about a year ago when I decided to switch from my Nikon D750 to Fujifilm X-H1. Rather than opting for the LR subscription model, I wanted to try something else. So far I've purchased Luminar, On1 and Capture One Pro Fujifilm 12. Although I don't remember exactly how much I've invested in my quest to find a replacement for LR, I've now settled mainly on Capture One. For those who might question my logic of spending more than the price of the annual subscription looking at alternatives to LR, I must say that I've had a lot of fun exploring what the different products bring to the table. I must say there are aspects I like about all three of the alternatives I now own, so that in itself made the investment a worthwhile endeavor for me. I purchased Luminar 2018 a year or so ago for a very good price and received no-cost upgrades to Luminar 2019 and Luminar 3 since then. Please note that Skylum currently offers a 50% discount to military, police, firefighters, and doctors. See the link below. I purchased Capture One at about half-price, but if you opt for the Fujifilm version you will need some additional software to process raw files from non-fujifilm cameras. Of course I still have LR6 to fall back on for my older cameras.

I am in the process of switching to C1. In LR I keep my masters on an external HD, basically a reference based system. I'm having trouble figuring out how to move the adjustments in my LR catalog to C1. Any ideas? Regards, Jack

From my reading, Iridient Transformer does very well with Fuji files. I am a bit puzzled about using raw processors in conjunction with LR. What is the work flow? Do you process all your photos through the external raw processor and then import into LR or, so you export from LR to the external processor which would seem cumbersome. Finally, at what point do you do your culling.

The workflow is very easy, as Iridient can be installed as LR plug-in. Simply import your Fuji RAW images into LR, then select those you want converted into a DNG by Iridient, and once done the DNG files are right there next to the Fuji RAF files. Since the conversion takes a bit of time, I only convert those files that I eventually plan to print. Otherwise, the current LR converter is doing a pretty good job.

$0.00 is even more cheap.

I downloaded the free Capture 1 program. It reads the Fuji raw files, and it seems to work about the same as LR - for no cost ever. I don't like 'forever' monthly payments. I'm paying for cable, Tivo, and Netflix (which just went up), and that's more than enough.

The difference in features and performance between LR6 and the current Classic CC is significant, and when compared to the cost of an XT-30 even with the inexpensive 18-55mm kit lens it seems reasonable to justify spending $120/year for a package of software that does so much. Not only do you get the latest updates and features of LR, but you get PS as well as PORTFOLIO which allows you to create and publish your own website. The current version of LR does a very good job with Fuji RAW files, but in rare instances, converting them to DNGs with Iridient Transformer will result in slightly improved quality. Capture One is an excellent alternative, but the full version is expensive and the learning curve is high. I've tried Capture One and ON1, but after Adobe improved its LR RAW converter for Fuji files, I've continued to use LR and PS. I've got a lot invested in my Fuji X series bodies and lenses, and $10/month seems a reasonable amount to pay for programs that are continually updated. Publishing my website for free is a bonus.

I used to like LR, however, I am using Luminar 3 exclusively now. LR is great, Luminar (for me) is greater. Nice thing we all have so much to choose from.

Cheers!

I always said I'd continue to use LR6 as long as it worked. It's showing its age.

It can't process the RAF files from my Fuji X-T30, and I'm not about to pay $120/year to do that. Both Affinity and ON1 work fine, and they're similar to LR. I know there are ways to convert the RAF files to JPEGs or TIFFs, but I prefer to process the raw files. So far, I seem to prefer ON1.

What do the rest of you Fuji people use for RAF files?

It looks like you worked something out. The Fuji X-T30 must be a newish camera? I bought my wife a Fuji X-100T and my old version of Ps CS6 opens those RAF Raw files fine. But that is only with ACR 9.1.1 and Windows 10. Seeing as you are using Lr6 you can get the free Adobe DNG Converter and convert from RAF to DNG RAW. But it looks like you found another solution.

I'm getting close to the end of my run with Ps CS6 as it is. It can work with my Pentax K-3 PEF Raw files but had I gotten a Pentax K-3II I would have had to upgrade to a Ps / Lr Subscription.

Hi there,

I use AlienSkinExposure 4 and ON1 Photo RAW 2019. I also have Iridient Developer which does a great job but I find very "clunky" to use. It does a fantastic job.

I really like ASX4 and they are very customer focussed. You might like to get their 30-day trial and see what you think. I really like the film sims and their interface.

ON1 is also excellent. I'm getting into it slowly. It seems to render the Fuji RAW files very well.

I have Affinity but have not got into using it yet.

I would not recommend Lumiar 3. It's a real shame as I've used Luminar 18 and liked it but I find Luminar 3 slow and I don't like the interface.

FYI I am running these apps on an old MacMini late 2012 with 16Gig of Ram. My machine is showing its age. I am finding all the PP apps needing more and more Ram.

I hope these thoughts are some help. If you have any specific questions about these aps let me know and I'll try to help.

I use Capture One's Fujifilm program.

I suggest you do a 30 day trial with Alien X4. It seems to be easier to use than either LR or ON 1. The results may surprise you.

I have been using the bracketing feature with the XT 3 for a month-shooting 3 jpeg images for film simulation and converting to TIFF with excellent results. As you probably know by now the FUJI jpegs are superior to those of any other camera brand.

Kevin Mullins has published some great recipes for tweeking the jpegs which can be set up in the q menu. Thanks for reading.

I was pleasantly surprised recently when I noticed there was a new version of Adobe DNG Convertor, downloaded it, and discovered it would convert my Fuji's RAW a heck of a lot faster than the previous version. Yep, one extra step but now completed quickly. I'm still using, and enjoying, my version of LR v.5.7

Also use Capture One Express for Fuji - does me just fine.

That combo might just be enough for you. Financial outlay? None ..... like it !
