I like your photos of Cumbria. It's beautiful country. I'm reading a book that takes place in Cumbria. It makes frequent reference to a "pele" tower. Would the white tower at the top of the hill be one of those? It apparently was used to spot Viking invaders or was a last resort stronghold if the Vikings couldn't be repulsed at the beach. Does any of this make sense to you?
Morning Retired CPO and thank you very much for looking in i always appreciate it.Glad you liked them and the monument on the top of the hill is a monument in memory of a local man called Sir John Barrow who was second in command in the British Admiralty and he also did a lot to help the people and the town of Ulverston and as an aside Ulverston is also the birthtown of Stan laurel of the Laurel and Hardy duo and i still love to watch their films now.I'v added a link for you to look at Retired CPO which will give you more information about he Peel/Pele towers.
